Job Description

Local districts throughout Van Buren County

Base Location: Maple Creek Education Center

Bangor MI 49013

Job Goals:

The primary goal is to improve the success of students with disabilities in school through direct service and consultation with students teachers parents administrators and community agencies. This position also supports SocialEmotional Learning (SEL) initiatives coordinates with outside agencies manages crisis situations facilitates communication with parents and serves as a member of the multidisciplinary special education team.

Qualifications:

Education:

Masters Degree in Social Work required

Certification:

  • Michigan approval or eligible for approval as a school social worker
  • LMSW or LLMSW required

Work Experience:

  • Experience in special education school social work including serving as a member of a multidisciplinary special education team preferred.
  • Strong background in student intervention including providing direct services through the IEP process crisis management and collaboration with families school teams and community agencies.
  • Familiarity with SocialEmotional Learning (SEL) programs as well as supporting students with behavioral and emotional needs.

Skills:

Knowledge in the following areas:

  • Schoolbased consultation and service
  • Individualized Education Program (IEP) development and progress monitoring
  • Special Education evaluation processes
  • Collaboration with family school and community agencies

General professional skills including a willingness to:

  • Provide a range of services to students as identified via the IEP process.
  • Provide consultation and support to families and school personnel to support student success.
  • Serve as a liaison to help coordinate efforts between school home community agencies and other service providers.
  • Perform comprehensive special education evaluations in alignment with state and local policies and procedures.
  • Document and evaluate services on a regular basis.
  • Seek ongoing professional learning and accept feedback in a professional way.
  • Demonstrate the VBISD principles of Respect Integrity Compassion and Excellence.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with school teams parents and community agencies and providers.
  • Adhere to federal state and Van Buren ISD policies and procedures.
  • Complete assigned responsibilities within agreedupon or established timelines.
  • Perform additional tasks responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Special Education Supervisor or Director of Special Education.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Valid Drivers License required.
  • Ability to sit and work on a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to travel across the county.

Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
