SHERIDAN SCHOOL DISTRICT
SPECIAL ED TEACHER
JOB DESCRIPTION
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. 190 day contract (additional days may be contracted for extra duties).
2. Job Type: Licensed Teacher.
3. Reports to: Campus Principal or Designee.
4. Salary based on district Licensed Salary Schedule.
5. FLSA Status: Exempt.
6. 10 days sick leave per year of employment.
7. 3 days personal leave per year.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Current or pending Arkansas Department of Education teaching license in
special education.
2. Must possess knowledge in all areas of responsibility as well as law and local
policy.
3. Must be computer literate with at least the ability to send and receive email with
attachments produce memos navigate the internet as required by position
responsibilities accurately complete and submit forms or reports as required
etc.
4. Must be able to read and comprehend written instructions policies and
procedures.
5. Must be attentive to details a selfstarter able to work effectively without
constant or direct supervision; must be able to multitask.
6. Must be of good moral character.
7. Must have good communication and organizational skills.
GENERAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES but not limited to:
1. Teach academic and functional skills to educationally and physically disabledstudents.
2. Modify the general education curriculum for specialneeds students based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies.
3. Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by the ADE
Board policies and administrative regulations.
4. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis by testing students
recording grades and providing progress reports to parents and appropriate
professionals as directed by the district.
5. Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules administrative regulations and
Board policy.
6. Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
7. Establish control in the classroom and administer discipline in accordance with
Board policies the student handbook and administrative regulations.
8. Take reasonable caution to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
9. Maintain accurate complete records as required by law district policy and
administrative regulations.
10. If needed assist in the selection of books equipment and other instructional
material.
11. Be responsible for supervising the proper usage of teaching supplies classroom
equipment and other instructional materials.
12. Attend and participate in faculty meetings required professional development
and/or any other meetings required by campus or district administration.
13. Maintain acceptable attendance and punctuality in accordance with district policy
and campus expectations.
14. Sponsor and accept responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned or
approved by the campus or district administration.
15. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues students and parents.
Strictly follow the Code of Ethics for Arkansas Educators.
16. Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing
instructional goals objectives and methods.
17. Work to maintain and improve professional competence.
18. Accept and respond appropriately to supervision.
19. Provide lesson plans as expected by campus administration.
20. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.
21. Confer with parents administrators testing specialists social workers and
professionals to develop individual educational plans designed to promote
students educational physical and social development.
SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS and/or REQUIREMENTS:
Physical Requirements: To accomplish this job successfully an individual must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation each essential function satisfactorily.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to read and follow a variety of instructions on district state and federal websites as well as hard copy.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondences. Requires the ability to prepare lessons reports etc. using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of grammar.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information to explain procedures to give oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively. Must possess the ability to speak to people with poise voice control and confidence. Must be able to deliver effective presentations to both small and large audiences.
