Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Esperanza Cyber Charter School (ECCS) located in North Philadelphia is seeking missiondriven Director of Student Development (DSD) applicants that align with ECCSs mission and enthusiasm for an excellent and equitable educational experience for all students. The DSD is responsible for helping to maintain the quality of courses for middle/high school students developing staff morale and providing excellent customer service to parents.

Esperanza Cyber Charter School (ECCS) prepares students in grades Kindergarten through 12 to meet the challenges of living creatively and productively in an increasingly technologically sophisticated and interconnected world. ECCS will provide students with an academically rigorous yet flexible online learning program that tailors learning experiences to each child through curriculum choices and virtual and inperson tutoring and counseling. ECCS targets underserved and atrisk students who have not always found success in traditional schools. ECCS places students on a pathway to postsecondary success.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree
  • Bilingual
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience specifically in school leadership teacher coaching or program leadership
  • Valid Pennsylvania Certification in Teaching
  • Demonstrates understanding of K12 online education and technology as it applies to the position.
  • Experience in an urban setting with high percentages of ELD and SPED students
  • A passion for education and a belief that your zip code does not dictate your destiny.
  • Ability to reliably commute to the building.
  • Current FBI fingerprints PA Criminal and Child Abuse background checks

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Open communication with the Director of Instruction and other school leadership about all school processes discuss problemsolve and make necessary decisions for the Instructional Department.
  • Collaborate with the Curriculum Coordinator to create academic programs that fulfill the instructional needs of students.
  • Manage school climate develop staff morale and provide excellent customer service to parents.
  • Served as a lead teacher and coach to new cyber teachers as needed.
  • Collaborate in building and implementing strong programs that foster student engagement in school programs functions and systems.
  • Establish and direct forums/team meetings for teachers.
  • Evaluate and recommend instructional technology and programs that will support program goals and create efficiencies for staff and students assisted by the Coordinator of Technology and the Director of Instruction.
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator of Technology to design professional development opportunities for staff on the use of any new technology purchases.
  • Ensure maintenance of data for all educationrelated activities is completed.
  • Work directly with teachers in the use of the electronic grade book system.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to influence positive behaviors by effectively communicating cyber school objectives and goals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff.
  • Ability to write reports formal correspondence and other documents that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students supervisors and staff.
  • Ability to effectively participate in continuing professional development based on an assessment of needs.
  • Ability to respectfully and effectively respond to common inquiries concerns or complaints from parents students and staff.
  • Ability to lead and motivate the staff to meet critical deadlines and cope with severe time constraints frequently interacting with students and staff through irregular and extended work hours

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working.
  • Constant hand finger and arm use and excellent eyehand coordination.
  • To occasionally function in activities involving walking bending squatting reaching and climbing stairs.
  • To occasionally stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to see and perform visual activities such as closing paperwork using a computer monitor reading and writing.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to come onsite for all required days.
