Job Description

Job Title: High School Vocal Music Teacher

Up to $5000 sign on bonus.

Job Summary:

The High School Vocal Music Teacher and Musical Theatre Director is responsible for leading and managing the vocal music program at the high school level. This multifaceted role involves teaching four different choir groups coteaching musical theatre productions directing vocal music for theatrical performances organizing and participating in various events within and outside the school community and overseeing participation in KMEA and KSHSAA district and state vocal events. The incumbent will inspire students to develop their vocal talents foster a love for music and uphold high standards of artistic excellence.

Responsibilities:

  1. Teach and conduct rehearsals for four different choir groups catering to varying skill levels and interests.
  2. Collaborate with the drama department to coteach musical theatre productions during the fall semester.
  3. Direct vocal music for the annual school musical including casting rehearsals and performances.
  4. Coordinate and perform vocal music at athletic events to enhance school spirit and support team morale.
  5. Organize and lead vocal performances at community events such as concerts festivals and fundraisers to showcase students talents and engage with the local community.
  6. Prepare students for participation in KMEA (Kansas Music Educators Association) and KSHSAA (Kansas State High School Activities Association) district and state vocal events including auditions rehearsals and performances.
  7. Develop and implement curriculum plans lesson materials and assessment strategies to facilitate student learning and growth in vocal music.
  8. Provide individualized instruction feedback and support to students to help them reach their full potential as vocalists and performers.
  9. Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages creativity collaboration and mutual respect among students and staff.
  10. Communicate regularly with students parents and stakeholders to share information about upcoming events rehearsals and performance opportunities.
  11. Collaborate with colleagues and administration to support the overall goals and objectives of the school and music department.
  12. Stay current with trends and developments in vocal music education and performance by participating in professional development activities workshops and conferences.

Qualifications:

Bachelors or Masters degree in Music Education Vocal Performance or related field.

Valid teaching certification/license in music education (preferably at the high school level).

Demonstrated proficiency in vocal music instruction conducting and performance.

Experience teaching and directing choirs and/or musical theatre productions in a school or community setting.

Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with students colleagues parents and community members.

Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment that values diversity and equity.

Knowledge of KMEA and KSHSAA guidelines and requirements for participation in district and state vocal events.

Passion for music education and a dedication to inspiring students to achieve excellence in vocal music.
