Under the direction of the Clinical Operations Manager works collaboratively with the members of the First Episode Psychosis (Early Intervention) interdisciplinary team to provide education assessment support and advocacy for the family members of clients. Engages in a therapeutic relationship that builds natural supports in partnership with clients their environment including family in partnership with providers and the community.
- RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Engagement orientation and assessment of clients and their families referred to the Family Support and Educator. Ensures clients and their families understand about the family work in the Family Education Program and conducts assessments with family members to identify strengths concerns and illness knowledge. Ensuring clients understand the services being offered as well as an understanding of processes anticipated length of service duration rights and expectations for participation in the program and limits to confidentiality. - Provide Clinical Intervention to support client and family needs using recovery and rehabilitation models in assessment planning intervention and evaluation of family centered interventions.
- Provide targeted work on specific problems identified by the client and their family members. Provide psychoeducation to clients families and community partners with a focus on helping them to understand episodes of psychosis (i.e. etiology treatment medication prognosis recovery).
- Provide Community Awareness and Education on the signs and symptoms of First Episode Psychosis with a focused attention to meet and provide this material to Family Practitioners and support systems for family and youth in the community.
- Develop deliver and evaluate group educational programs relevant to client and program needs.
- Ensure family members are aware of the available community resources that provide services and support. Where conflicts arise between the wishes of clients and family members family members are referred to an appropriate alternative service.
- Develop and maintain community outreach skills and a knowledge base of community resources and services.
- Provide supervision to agency volunteers and student placements as requested. Supporting and providing advice to volunteers and students in the program and service area.
- Ensuring all file management documentation and reporting functions are maintained in a comprehensive and timely manner and in line with organizational standards.
Participating in program evaluation and making recommendations for changes/improvement
EDUCATION & SKILLS:
- Knowledge and skills acquired through the completion of a Practical Nurse Diploma or Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BScN) from a recognized institution. Registered member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) is considered an asset.
- Three 3 years of experience working in a mentalhealth related field is required. Demonstrated experience with and detailed knowledge of first episode psychosis and other psychiatric illnesses within the last 5 years.
- Extensive experience delivering presentations to various ages and populations. Experience working with youth and young adults. Comprehensive knowledge of psychotropic is required. Demonstrated experience providing family supports and interventions is considered an asset.
- Comprehensive knowledge of working with persons with psychotic disorders including etiology prognosis and treatment modalities and of early intervention in psychosis.
Comprehensive knowledge of psychotropic ; knowledge of family systems theory the adaptation process in families adjustment to chronic illnesses utilizing the principles of adult learning; up to date knowledge of relevant mental health policy legislation and regulation; and knowledge of community resources. Knowledge and skills in the principles and practices of psychosocial rehabilitation psychoeducation and recovery including hope and empowerment. - Computer literacy skills and working knowledge or various Microsoft Windows application is required.
- Bilingualism in both official languages at the advanced level is considered an asset.
- A valid Ontario Drivers License with access to a reliable vehicle and proof of current insurance and licensing are required for this position.
Hours of Work: ThirtyFive 35 hour work week. The agencys regular hours of operation are Monday to Friday 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Flexible hours are required to meet client and service needs.
Salary range: Grade 9 $37.84 $44.81 per hour

Applicable shift premiums are paid in accordance with the Collective Agreement Article 17.11.
