POSITION SUMMARY:
- Drive a school bus to transport students over specified routes according to schedule
- Complywith traffic regulations
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 18 years of age
- Obtain a Texas class A or B Commercial Driver License
- Acceptable driving record
- Pass the Texas Department of Public Safety physical including drug and alcohol screening
- Satisfactory criminalbackground check
Certificates Licenses Registrations:
- Obtain and maintain a Class A or B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with P and S endorsement
- Pass 20hour Texas School Bus Driver Certification Course and recertify every three years
- Special needs drivers must take a 20hour special needs course and an 8hour CPI and annual refresher
Language Skills:
- Ability to read two and threesyllable words
- Recognize similarities and differences between names and between a series of numbers
- Ability to print and speak simple sentences
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to add/subtract two digit numbers and to multiply/divide with 10s and 100s
- Ability to performmathematical operations using units of American money weight measurement volume and distance
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work in a friendly manner with coworkers and students
- Ability to read and understand maps
- Ability to pass Department of Transportation annual physical
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form
- Ability to perform duties with an awareness of all district requirements and School Board policies
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Drive a school bus safely and professionally
- Perform and correctly complete daily pretrip and posttrip inspections
- Comply with all traffic ordinances
- Participate in onsite training
- Show proficiency in handling and maneuvering a school bus
- Obey all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses
- Keep the assigned bus clean
- Instruct students on safe riding practices
- Maintain student safety management when students are on a bus
- Report unsafe student behavior to the proper authority
- Exercise responsible leadership when on outofdistrict school trips
- Report all accidents and complete required reports in the prescribed manner
- Maintain professional effective communication with students passengers and the public
- Attend toemergency situations by using standard operating procedures
- Assist in problemsolving such conditions as route overloads routes needing attention equipment needing repair loading and unloading of stops
- Special needs drivers are responsible for the safe and orderly transportation of students with disabilities. Learn and adapt to each students special medical physical communicative and emotional needs. Must be knowledgeable and trained in wheelchairs lifts and restraints
