The Alternative High School ESL Teacher is responsible for implementing researchbased second language acquisition strategies to teach English Learners in grades 912 in ESL classrooms. This Teacher is critical to the success of our Alternative School program for overaged undercredited High School Students. The Teacher must work collaboratively with the EHS ESL Department Heads the Assistant Principal and other Alternative School faculty throughout the year to continually improve the experience and performance of our students. The ESL Teacher must be flexible and willing to meet the scheduling needs of students within the Alternative School schedule. Teachers should be well versed in the Next Generation ESL and WIDA 2020 framework on cultural responsiveness to promote equity and to differentiate for a diverse population of ELs including SLIFE and ELs with Disabilities Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) practices and Universal Design to ensure access to content for all students. Teachers must exercise culturally responsive practices to promote equity and respect for all students.

Working Time: 9:30am4:30pm Monday through Thursday 8am3pm on Fridays

Required Education/Experience:
- Bachelors Degree in ESL or education
- Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Certification in ESL for Grades 912
Preferred Education/Experience:
- Masters Degree in Education Applied Linguistics or related field
- 3 or more years of high school teaching experience
- Dual Licensure in Special Education and/or English as a Second Language
- Experience working in an urban public school setting with high school students
- Proficiency in reading writing and speaking in English and a second language.
- Strong growth mindset flexibility and collaborative skills.
Essential Duties:
- Provide individualized English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to English Language Learners in accordance with the Massachusetts State Frameworks and WIDA standards.
- Plan effective ESL units of study and lessons that align with WIDA and Massachusetts State Frameworks.
- Demonstrate cultural proficiency and use of effective and culturally and linguistically relevant instructional practices.
- Plan and participate in data collection and analysis to identify target areas of EL Success Plans instruction and small group work.
- Collaborate and coplan with gradelevel coteachers including classroom teachers and Special Education inclusion teachers to provide the highest quality instruction and support for English Learners.
- Proctor MCAS and ACCESS assessments for English Learners.
- Assist in EL paperwork management and compliance measures set forth by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- Use all available technology and virtual curricula provided by the district to create engaging lessons and supports that are linked with 21stcentury skills and remote accessibility.
- Manage classroom behavior with Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies that motivate students and limit disruptions.
- Incorporate socialemotional learning standards and curriculum that promote selfconfidence teambuilding and informed decisionmaking.
- Communicate with student families on a regular basis using culturally responsive strategies that promote twoway conversations.
- Employ a strong growth mindset and participate in professional development that is relevant to the challenges of urban education in order to close opportunity gaps.
- Collaborate with guidance counselors to refer students who are in need of socialemotional support.
- Collaborate with Special Education leadership and teacher colleagues to review IEPs and ensure all accommodations are properly and consistently delivered.
- Implement newly selected HQIM/ curriculum with fidelity to ensure equity and student
Outcomes. - Contribute to schoolwide initiatives and events as assigned by your supervisor/assistant principal including onetoone and group checkins with students school events daily student advisories recognition ceremonies and communitybuilding activities.
SALARY:
Based on the Everett Teachers Association salary scale.
