Job Description

Summary Statement

This employee is responsible for the verbatim stenographic reporting and transcription of trials oral arguments hearings and conferences within the Superior Court under the general supervision of the Chief Court Reporter; will have contact with court personnel parties witnesses the public and attorneys from law firms private industry and government agencies for the purpose of confirming quoted material obtaining spellings of technical terms and proper names and anything else necessary to assure absolute accuracy and completeness of the verbatim record; and must be able to work as part of a team in an extremely busy office with a large volume of daily and expedited transcript requests.

Essential Functions

Stenographic reporting of all hearings before the judicial officers and prompt production of transcripts as requested by the Court attorneys and litigants. Ability to work in a team environment to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the court reporters office.

Job Requirements

Applicants must have education training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of
the following areas:
  1. Possession of the Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certification and maintain that certification throughout duration of employment.
  2. Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR) licensing from the National Court Reporters Association within 12 months of hire and maintain said licensing throughout duration of employment.
  3. Possession of uptodate CAT software at the time of hire capable of streaming realtime over the internet using Bridge Mobile CaseViewNet or approved software.
  4. Graduation from a court reporting school or university or college having a court reporting curriculum including or supplemented by courses in standard stenographic methods of taking testimony and dictation and specialized training in reporting and transcribing judicial proceedings involving experts and foreign accents in highly technical professions businesses and industries.
  5. Experience as a stenographic reporter recording and transcribing verbatim proceedings of judicial or quasijudicial hearings conferences and meetings in a court system.
  6. Ability to communicate courteously effectively and promptly both verbally and in writing.

Additional Posting Information

  • Statewide travel is required.
  • A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire and to maintain employment.
  • Direct deposit of paychecks is required as a condition of employment.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license at the time of hire and through the duration of employment.
  • This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization) that has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other applicable terms and conditions of employment in accordance with Title 29 Chapter 59 and Title 19 Chapter 13 and 16. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.

Conditions of Hire

Criminal background check: A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire. The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.
