CLASS TITLE:Librarian/Media Specialist
REPORTS TO:Principal
BASICFUNCTION:To provide all students with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will invite intellectual growth and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of library resources.
REPRESENTATIVEDUTIES:Operates and supervises the library to which assigned.
Evaluates selects and requisitions new library/media materials.
Assists teachers in the selection of books media and instructional materials.
Informs teachers and other staff members of new library/media materials.
Maintains an efficient system for cataloging all library materials and instructs teachers and students on use of the system.
Arranges for interlibrary loan of materials.
Plans library assignments with teachers and students.
Requires appropriate conduct of students using library facilities.
Helps students develop independent work habits and skills in using reference materials.
Participates in curriculum meetings.
Gives reading guidance to all students.
Arranges library displays and exhibits.
Administers all responsibilities under Board policy.
Disposes of obsolete and worn materials from the collection on an annual basis and maintains a completeinventory.
Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development; for keeping current with the literaturenew research findings and improved techniques and for attending appropriate professional meetings andconventions.
Perform other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the Principal.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Holds a valid Kentucky Certificate as a Librarian/Media Specialist.
Has demonstrated ability to work effectively with students faculty and administration.
