It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to broadly provide Inuitspecific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. TI has over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design development and delivery of a wide range of effective clientcentered services. By incorporating the principles of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.
The Restorative Justice Liaison (RJL) is responsible for implementing and managing the daytoday activities of Tungasuvvingat Inuits (TI) Restorative Justice Program. Restorative Justice is a community based practice used to strengthen communities repair harm and restore relationships when wrongdoings occur. It is a set of principles values and practices that create safe spaces for honest dialogue to take place.
Reporting to the Pisiksik Justice Department Manager the RJL collaborates with justice system partners community organizations and the general public to educate and promote TIs Restorative Justice Program. The RJL is responsible for delivering and developing Inuit Restorative Justice Services and culturally specific and relevant resources programming and supports. This position provides direct services for Inuit impacted by crime and wrongdoing including clients families community members and key stakeholders. The RJL is accountable for the coordination of appointments training and maintenance of the Ikajuriallattiit Restorative Justice Committee (IRJC) activities within the criminal justice system.
Responsibilities:
Knowledge of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit of the 8 Guiding Principles and traditional practices; detailed knowledge of restorative justice models and the criminal justice system; familiarity with Urban Inuit legal issues and the Inuit socioeconomic landscape; familiar with Inuit history and the impacts of colonization; for referral purposes knowledge of internal and external services for Inuit in Ottawa.
The ideal candidate excellent skills in interpersonal and communication case and file management stress and time management relationshipbuilding group and oneonone interviews organizational skills and resourcefulness. Organize and deliver training to those involved in community justice foster and work within a multidiscipline team environment.
Proficient use of MS Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook videoconferencing platforms and electronic records management applications and a clear Vulnerable Sector Check with results acceptable to TI is required. Availability to work evenings and weekends is required. Fluency in English is required the ability to speak Inuktitut is preferred. Valid Drivers license and own reliable vehicle is required.
Completion of diploma or degree in Criminology Social Sciences Social Work is required.
Three years experience dealing with similar clientele the justice system and community partners is a definite asset.
