About Us:

New York Edge is the largest provider of after school and summer camp programs in New York City public schools. Each year programs in academics--including STEM the arts sports & wellness and college access help 40000 students develop leadership skills and succeed in school. Summary:

New York Edge seeks a highly organized detailed and responsible individual to fill the role of Restorative Practices this position you will be responsible for promoting and actively engaging in restorative intervention practices throughout the school day that will helpstudents more effectively manage challenges that may negatively impact their academic social and emotional addition to supporting the daily needs of students you will also play a key role in creating a positive school environment through fostering positive relationships between students parents school staff and community members. This role reports directly to the Community School Director.


Schedule:

Part-TimeMonday Friday9AM-2:30PM(Days/shifts vary dependent on site needs)


Pay:

$30.00-$40.00


Essential Job Functions:

  • Facilitates group discussions and restorative circles that support the positive social emotional and mental health of students staff and families

  • Participates in professional development opportunities; including restorative practices crisis management de-escalation strategies and other topics that support the positive social emotional and mental health of students staff and families

  • Works closely with various school teams to expand restorative practices to ensure that all stakeholders feel welcome and heard in the school community

  • Works closely with various school teams to identify students needs target interventions and track and monitor the impact of those supports

  • Supports students with social emotional or behavior challenges and assists them in developing effective social skills

  • Promotes positive character development in all youth

  • Leads professional development and/or coaching for teachers staff and/or parents on restorative practices

  • Assists in the implementation of programs and initiatives that explore themes of confidence respect diversity communication positive relationships and other topics that promote the well-being of all members of the school community

  • Builds strong trusting relationships with students families and staff to ensure all stakeholders feel safe in a supported environment

  • Supports the Community School Director with data collection assessment evaluation planning

  • Guides students through stress and conflict by facilitating peer mediation sessions including goal setting

  • Communicates with parents and families

  • Supports with the planning and execution of various events

  • Creates and maintains records reports and presentations

  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements:

  • Familiarity and experience with wellness models such as Restorative Practices Mindfulness Trauma-Informed Care Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

  • Familiarity and experience with conflict mediation and crisis intervention skills

  • Thorough understanding of child development and behavior

  • Ability to develop trusting relationships with students families and staff.

  • Ability to handle fast-paced environments and embrace change with flexibility

  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with colleagues parents students and the community

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion

  • Facilitating group conversations with students parents and staff

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team


Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Social Work Counseling Education Psychology or a related field

  • At least two (2) years of experience working with youth in an urban environment; preferably within a school setting

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite

  • Strong cultural competence and emotional intelligence


Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • May be required to walk up and down stairs

  • May be required to lift heavy objects/materials as needed

  • Work is performed mostly within a New York City Public School but may be required to interact with the community at large during trips or events.
