Job Description

SUMMARY: The Network Systems Manager manages configures installs distributes and monitors all network related devices for district use. This position collaborates with the technology staff to keep the districts network and WIFI networks working properly 24/7/365 and assist endusers in resolving their network issues.


SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides and implements detailed plans for establishing and maintaining a stable and growing network infrastructure for all district applications.
2. Provides and implements detailed plans for establishing and maintaining the wireless network infrastructure for all district applications.
3. Manages the installation maintenance upgrading and repair of all servers switches routers and other networking equipment in the district.
4. Researches recommends and implements effective solutions to network problems.
5. Manages the web email networking filtering and archival systems.
6. Ensures proper network security is in place to protect all confidential information and oversees district implementation of antiviral software to ensure data integrity.
7. Implements manages administers and documents Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) infrastructure including capacity/feasibility planning new installations upgrades & configuration feature functionality testing maintenance troubleshooting backup systems security procedures/protocol and operating procedures and guidelines.
8. Completes applications for the universal service Erate program for the district and administers all grants received through the program.
9. Serves as primary liaison between district and vendors for network cabling needs and repairs.
10. Monitors and controls 3rd party devices on the network (maintenance HVAC etc. systems).
11. Provides networking staff development training and support.
12. Assists in evaluating existing hardware and software and recommending improvements.
13. Assists in the ongoing implementation and evaluation of all aspects of the districts and schools technology plans.
14. Performs any other duties assigned by the Director of Instructional Technology.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Associate or bachelors degree in a field related to computer networking or equivalent combination of education and experience in troubleshooting computer software and hardware problems and supporting users in a network environment.
2. Minimum three 3 to five 5 years experience in network systems including system problem identification and resolution voice video and data network hardware and software systems.
3. Proficient in Linux Mac OS and Windows OS or CCNA.
4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both orally and in writing.
5. Ability to establish and maintain positive and professional working relationships with coworkers.
6. Good organizational and problemsolving. Selfdirected individual who can determine work assignments based on an understanding of established practices.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
1. At least five years experience in supporting hardware and software in an educational environment.
2. At least three years experience in managing networking infrastructure.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Environment: Standard office and school setting; moderate travel; exposure to potentially stressful environments; regularly perform inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
Physical: Sufficient physical ability to perform moderate lifting up to 50 pounds; regularly required to walk sit or stand for prolonged periods of time; may require climbing stooping kneeling or crouching.
Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents.
Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction; the noise level in the work environment is moderate.


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of various networking systems and how different technology systems interact.
2. Knowledge of firewalls switches routers access points.
3. Knowledge of Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District policies and procedures
including student and employee handbooks.
4. Ability to work with diverse groups and maintain effective working relationships with
others.
5. Ability to communicate technical assistance to all users.
6. Ability to be detail oriented meet deadlines and work on multiple tasks at one time.
7. Possess organizational troubleshooting and problemsolving skills.
