Job Description

This is an elementary Special Education (Resource Room) teacher posting for the 2025/26 school year. Site(s) grade level and FTE are yet to be determined. Applications may be reviewed as they are received.

Elementary School Resource Room Special Education teaching.

Includes a $5000 signing bonus for those hired and placed in a special education assignment and holds valid credentials (note: there is a 2 year service requirement associated with the signing bonus).

The starting salary is based upon the previous number of years of teaching experience.Any parttime parttime position (less than 1.0 FTE) will be proratedto the appropriate FTE.

General Summary:

The Resource Room Teacher is responsible for planning instruction and/or adaption of the education program to enable students to benefit from educational experiences. The Resource Room Teacher reports to the building principal.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Builds trust and confidence with students.
  2. Plans curriculum lessons and special education programs and teaching methods.
  3. Maintains the physical environment of the classroom for organization and presentation purposes.
  4. Encourages good citizenship.
  5. Instructs individuals and groups on Special Education skill areas.
  6. Monitors student progress in and outside the resource room.
  7. Modifies curriculum as needed.
  8. Maintains contact with parents of students.
  9. Evaluates student progress based on work output and observations determines goals objectives and directions.
  10. Prepares report cards education records IEPC forms classroom observation records and other forms.
  11. Participates in weekly building Special Education Committee meetings.
  12. Administers testing evaluations.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelors degree in Elementary or Secondary Special Education required.
  2. Must possess a valid Michigan teaching certificate with a Special Education (SASX) endorsement area. Additional endorsement areas preferred.
  3. Effective oral and written communication skills.
  4. Demonstrate success in area of application.
