Position Overview:
Sugar Creek Charter Schools mission is to eradicate generational poverty by providing a rigorous college and career preparatory education for students from kindergarten through 12th grade focusing on academic preparation college and career readiness and life skills for success. We are seeking a missionaligned passionate and dedicated Middle School Creative Writing Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will foster a love for writing encourage selfexpression and help students develop strong storytelling poetry and analytical writing skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Classroom Management:
- Develop and implement standardsaligned lesson plans that engage students in creative expression through fiction poetry drama and personal narratives.
- Teach students writing techniques literary devices and storytelling strategies to enhance their creativity and communication skills.
- Utilize workshops peer reviews and writing conferences to encourage revision collaboration and growth.
- Foster a structured inclusive and inspiring classroom environment where students feel encouraged to take creative risks.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students at varying skill levels and provide constructive individualized feedback on their writing.
Student Support & Engagement:
- Cultivate a classroom culture of creativity exploration and respect where students feel comfortable sharing their work.
- Encourage students to develop their own writing voice while exploring diverse genres and perspectives.
- Organize student publishing opportunities writing contests and public readings to showcase student work.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and engagement in writing.
- Ensure student safety through consistent supervision and by implementing the schoolwide behavior plan.
Collaboration & Professional Growth:
- Embrace a growth mindset by actively seeking and applying feedback to enhance instructional practices.
- Collaborate with English Language Arts teachers to align writing instruction with literacy standards and best practices.
- Participate in planning and coaching sessions with curriculum leaders and instructional coaches.
- Engage in ongoing professional development focused on writing instruction and student engagement.
- Contribute to the school community through team meetings committees and school events.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in English Creative Writing Education or a related field (required).
- Valid teaching license or eligibility for licensure in North Carolina (preferred).
- Experience teaching middle school writing or English Language Arts (preferred but not required).
- Strong classroom management skills and a commitment to high expectations for all students.
