Job Description

Title: Deaf/Hard of Hearing TeacherFY242531

Reports to: Director of Special Education and/or Building Principal

Status: Salaried FTE .5 $500 Stipend

Salary: $20500.00 $25938.50 DOE

Location: District Wide

Contract Days: 94 plus up to 2.5 additional days of paid extension of contract at the daily rate of pay.

Start Date: ASAP

*Positions include teaching in resource room through functional life skills.

Essential Job Duties

  • Assists in development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Attends and participates in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings IEP meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Provides an appropriate educational program for each student.
  • Monitors the condition and use of appropriate amplification equipment for each student.
  • Provides information and training to school staff including suggestions for environmental modifications preferential seating communication understanding the impact of hearing loss and use of hearing aids sign language interpreters and FM systems as applicable.
  • Complies with Board policies rules regulations and directives.
  • Instructs individuals and groups in special education skill areas.
  • Plans curriculum lessons and special education programs and teaching methods.
  • Monitors students progress in and outside special education room.
  • Reports cases of suspected child abuse according to state law.
  • Maintains regular contact with parents of students.
  • Participates in faculty meetings educational conferences professional training seminars and workshops.
  • Evaluates student progress based on work output and observation determines goals objectives and directions.
  • Prepares report cards educational records IEP forms classroom observation records and other forms.
  • Consults with other professionals and teaching staff regarding progress of students and related educational matters.
  • Supervises students classroom aides sign language interpreters and volunteers.

Knowledge Skills Abilities

  • Sign language skills ASL preferred.
  • Knowledge and skills in the areas of language development and language refinement needed by students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
  • Working knowledge of hearing aids cochlear implants FM equipment and the interpretation of audiograms.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor and to coordinate work with principal and others.
  • Ability to read write and speak English fluently.
  • Ability to be flexible to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances.
  • Ability to problem solve to analyze issue.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students the public and staff members.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to manage time and responsibilities adapt to changing work priorities communicate with diverse groups maintaining confidentiality meet deadlines and schedules.
  • Ability to set priorities work as part of a team and work with and manage frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student matters.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students parents and staff.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board policies.
  • Ability to schedule activities meetings and/or events gather collate and/or classify data and use jobrelated equipment.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining accurate records and using pertinent software applications (as required).

Equipment Used

  • Computer calculator copier telephone/voice mail fax wheelchairs and other special needs equipment.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Montana Educator License with proper endorsement Sign language skills ASL preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Successful experience working with special needs students.

Necessary special requirements:

  • Montana Drivers license or the ability to obtain license within three months of hire date.

Physical and Mental Demands and Work Hazards

  • Performs routine work.
  • Regularly works inside with minimal temperature variations. Ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Frequently required to sit occasionally walk and stand and reach with hands or arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Carrying pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling.
  • Significant fine finger dexterity
  • May be required to lift or carry up to 10 30 pounds on a routine basis with or without an accommodation.
  • The employee frequently works within time constraints and must maintain attentiveness intensity.
  • Frequently involved in interactions which require oral and written communications.
  • Exercises flexibility and the ability to shift from one task to another.
  • Occasional travel/mobility between schools or between schools and the Administration office may be required.
  • Work area is generally a hazard free environment.
  • Demonstrates regular attendance performing duties as described.
  • Reports to work fit for duty with characteristics inherent to the position.
