You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe role of Safety Case Engineer GE Power Conversion UK is an exceptional opportunity for your capabilities enthusiasm and experience to make a real impact at one of the leading energy technology companies working on major global projects.
This role is based at our Marine Power Test Facility (MPTF) in Whetstone (Leicester). This stateoftheart facility plays a crucial role in derisking present and future platforms energy and propulsion technologies micro grids and associated systems and solutions for both surface ships and submarines in the UK defence industry.
As the facility Safety Case engineer you will play a critical role in being responsible for developing and maintaining the safety case for full scale surface ship and submarine power and propulsion integrated systems in a shore based test environment.
As part of the systems and project teams you will be working to provide a robust safety case and analysis of complex power propulsion automation and test systems through its lifecycle evolution including requirements design build installation test trials and decommissioning. The role involves both working within existing GE Vernova Safety and Environmental management systems and also recognised Defence safety standards tools and processes.
Convene and lead the project safety and environmental committees with a cross functional team including customer and key stakeholders to facilitate the Hazard identification ALARP assessment and risk tolerability risk reduction and evidencing and deliver the project environmental and safety management case.
Working alongside the multifunctional engineering teams EHS and the customer you will develop the safety requirements verification and validation evidence and arguments needed to support and validate the safety case claims
Support Hazard identification and undertake Hazop Reviews FMEA and fault tree analysis with respect to physical and functional safety aspects owning and creating the hazard log and any associated documentation.
Participate in design and progress reviews and present progress and outcomes of the safety case to key stakeholders customers and senior duty holders at critical phases and tollgates with respect to safety.
Working with EHS develop an Environmental impacts assessment and risk assessment for the project with respect to the facilities compliance with company and regulatory requirements carbon reduction and sustainability goals.
Provide subject matter safety expertise in support of development and approval of risk assessments method statements and test procedures.
Provide subject matter safety expertise in support of incident analysis root cause and lessons learnt process.
Comply with relevant company Environmental Health and Safety processes and continued improvement of local site processes and procedures.
Liaise with customers and suppliers (including site visits).
Undertake safety reviews audits and inspections at key events eg) prior to test or commissioning.
Assists in other areas of the business as required
Qualifications/Requirements
HND/Degree or higher in related Engineering discipline (Electrical Power Electronics Mechanical or Control systems)
Electrical / power or power electronics systems bias with experience in Marine defence Rail power nuclear or oil and gas.
Have at proven track record of safety engineering experience in safety case production physical and functional Hazard assessments in a systems environment.
Experience of working within the framework of DEF STAN 0056 Part 1
Experience of Cassandra or equivalent tools for Hazard logs and safety case management.
Have a high focus on accuracy and quality of work with great attention to detail and excellent awareness of safety in the development of designs and complex systems.
Excellent technical and problemsolving skills and reasoning ability.
Ability to communicate (both written and orally) effectively and clearly with a variety of professionals in a collaborative manner.
Excellent organisational and time management skills.
Must be selfmotivated and a great team worker
The applicant must be a sole national British citizen and have a valid UK passport ability to attain SC clearance and a valid full UK driving licence.
