Product Safety Engineer

We are looking for a Safety Engineer to join our UK team; base location is flexible but ideally one of Reading Bristol Templecombe Crawley Glasgow or Belfast.

As a Safety Engineer you will have the opportunity to work across our different businesses gaining experience in the civil and defence sectors and in the land aviation maritime and autonomy domains.

Thales develops and engineers cutting edge products and technologies such as autonomous platforms (air and maritime) high performance sonar arrays Air Traffic Management systems electronic warfare & counter measure systems to name a few. As part of the UK Safety Environmental and Certification Capability (SECC) you will have the opportunity to contribute to and develop your knowledge of these systems and the safety considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting Product Safety Managers in delivering complex safety programmes associated with a variety of Thales products systems and services.
  • Applying and leveraging your knowledge of Systems Safety Engineering to complex systems.
  • Undertaking Systems Safety activities and assessment to influence design.
  • Contributing to the development of safety cases and other key safety artefacts.
  • Working in multidisciplinary project/product teams to identify and manage hazards and risks.

You will be able to work across a range of activities at various stages of the systems engineering lifecycle.

You will be a good communicator at all levels able to understand and decompose complexity and present it in simple terms.

Heres What Youll Need

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject area
  • Experience of Systems Safety Engineering activities in a complex safety focussed and regulated organisation such as rail aerospace nuclear or oil & gas
  • Experience of preparing Safety Cases and familiar with ALARP principles and arguments
  • Demonstrable experience of undertaking Systems Safety activities including System Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) Event Tree Analysis (ETA) Common Cause Failure Analysis Functional Failure Analysis (FFA) Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) Interface Hazard Analysis (IHA) System Hazard Logs System Hazard Analysis Reports
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an engineering development environment ensuring Systems Safety compliance is achieved throughout the project life cycle
  • Experience in the application of standards such as EN 50126 EN 50128 EN 50129 IEC 61508 ARP4761 DO178 etc.
  • Professional qualification or working towards professional qualification (e.g. IEng/CEng)

Security Clearance Statement

This role will require SC Clearance. It would be advantageous if currently held however if not currently held it is a requirement that the successful applicant will undergo achieve and maintain SC Clearance. Please visit the UKSV website for further guidance.

To be eligible for full SC you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last 5 years. In some circumstances a minimum of 3 years residence in the UK over the last 5 years may be accepted with additional overseas checks.
