JobDescription:

L3Harris in San Diego CA is seeking a senior professional with strong knowledge of RF/microwave engineering and communication theory to support the design and manufacture of Tracking Telemetry and Command products for airborne and spacebased applications. The engineer will perform circuit card and subsystem design integration and test of RF hardware. The ideal candidate will possess a diverse array of skills encompassing proficiency in RF/microwave engineering knowledge of digital modulation techniques and an indepth grasp of communications theory.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for all aspects of RF/microwave product development including circuit card and subsystem design schematic capture circuit design derating and WorstCase Analysis (WCA)
  • Manage complex projects or processes with general oversight
  • Determine design approaches and parameters
  • Utilize modeling tools and equipment to establish operating data conduct experimental tests and evaluate results
  • Select components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability
  • Perform simulations and present design reviews to peer engineers
  • Lead and perform trade studies required to make both tactical and strategic technical decisions for programs
  • Conduct design verification testing to validate the performance of designs
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to RF/microwave circuits and power amplifiers
  • Provide mentoring guidance and leadership to novice engineers

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Sciencce degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent required and at least 6 years of industry experience. Masters of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with at least 4 years of industry experience. In lieu of a degree minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
  • 4 years experience designing high frequency preferably XBand or higher RF/microwave Power Modules and Amplifiers
  • Experience writing RF/microwave Power Module and Amplifier specifications including Power Supply and requirements
  • 5 years of RF/microwave engineering principles and hands on experience with RF/microwave and communications test equipment
  • Experience performing linear and nonlinear RF circuit design and analysis using ADS HFSS Momentum or similar
  • Experience with digital modulation techniques to include BPSK QPSK and related distortion metrics like EVM
  • Experience troubleshooting RF/microwave subassemblies to the component level
  • Ability to independently conduct design verification testing (DVT)

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience performing RF system analysis using ADS System Vue AWR VSS or similar
  • Ability to perform linear and nonlinear analysis of RF/microwave circuits using Keysight ADS or similar
  • Familiarity with transmitter and receiver architecture design
  • Transmitter design: gain distribution linearity modulation formats synthesizer architecture and EVM performance
  • Receiver front end design: Noise figure dynamic range acquisition and tracking threshold and BER performance
  • Experience with performing 3D Electromagnetic analysis using HFSS or similar
  • Working knowledge of modems
  • Understanding of digital design fundamentals to include modem architectures power supplies interfacing with ADCs FPGAs and more
  • Understanding of nonlinear effects of the TX chain and (digital or analog) predistortion techniques to mitigate amplitude and/or phase distortion
  • Understanding of AM/AM and AM/PM conversion and TX chain saturation
  • Understanding of thermomechanical and heatsinking aspects of power amplifier design
  • Familiarity with DVBS2 waveform
  • Experience with military or space qualified hardware designs
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced collaborative environment

In compliance with pay transparency requirements the salary range for this role is $104500.00 $193500.00. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
