The Discovery Tech team helps customers discover and engage with new popular and relevant products across Amazon worldwide. We do this by combining technology science and innovation to build new customerfacing features and experiences alongside cutting edge tools for marketers. You will be responsible for creating and building critical services that automatically generate target and optimize Amazons crosscategory marketing and merchandising. Through the enablement of intelligent marketing campaigns that leverage machinelearning models you will help to deliver the best possible shopping experience for Amazons customers all over the globe.

We believe in regular feature develop and frequent experimentation allowing us to continuously improve the customer experience. You will have the opportunity to explore the many channels Amazon provides for customer outreach and engagement both onsite and offsite. As a new team we carry little tech debt. We prioritize writing high quality and maintainable code and build systems that leverage existing tools to provide extensive test coverage across our services. The team provides a great opportunity to make an outsized impact in a burgeoning space and on fresh or even yet to be built services. Key job responsibilities
As a Principal Engineer you will be expected to serve as a technical lead on our most demanding crossfunctional projects.
Ensure the quality of architecture and design of systems.
Functionally decompose complex problems into simple straightforward solutions.
Fully and completely understand system interdependencies and limitations.
Possess expert knowledge in performance scalability enterprise system architecture and engineering best practices.
Leverage knowledge of internal and industry prior art in design decisions.
Effectively research and benchmark Amazon technology against other competing systems in the industry.
Contribute intellectual property through patents.
Assist in the career development of others actively mentoring individuals and the community on advanced technical issues and helping managers guide the career growth of their team members.
Exert technical influence over multiple teams increasing their productivity and effectiveness by sharing your deep knowledge and experience.
Navigate with other teams in Amazon and influence their design and roadmap decisions for the benefit of our region.
Collaborate with the business teams to identify opportunities and innovate on behalf of our customers
Knowledge of objectoriented design data structures and algorithms
Experience (noninternship) in professional software development
Experience designing and building largescale systems in a multitiered distributed environment (Service Oriented Architecture)
