Job Description

Job Title: Counselor MS Title I

Reports to: Campus Principal

Dept/Campus: Assigned Campus

Pay Grade: Adm/Prof PG 3

Wage Status: Exempt

Days: 207

Primary Purpose:
Work with school faculty and staff students parents and community to plan implement and evaluate a comprehensive developmentalguidance and counseling program at the school assigned. Counsel students to fully develop each students academic careerpersonal and social abilities and address the needs of special population students. This position is Title I funded and meets the intentand purpose of Title I Part A of the ESSA grant program. The respective employee will be assigned 100 to this federal grantprograms single cost objective.


Education/Certification:

  • Masters degree from an accredited college or university in guidance and counseling
  • Valid Texas counseling certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of counseling procedures student appraisal and career development
  • Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior


Experience:

  • Two years of experience as a classroom teacher

Essential Job Functions:

  • Teach school developmental guidance curriculum to students.
  • Help teachers incorporate guidancerelated information into existing curriculum.
  • Provide guidance to individuals and groups of students to develop educational plans and career awareness.
  • Counseling individuals and small groups about their concerns.
  • Consult parents teachers administrators and other relevant people to enhance their work with students.
  • Work with school personnel and school district residents to obtain resources for students.
  • Use an effective referral process to help students and others use special programs and services.
  • Participate in the planning and evaluation of the campus standardized testing program.
  • Interpret test and other appraisal results appropriately.
  • Plan school guidance and counseling programs to ensure that they meet identified needs.
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the guidance program and make changes based on findings.
  • Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law State Board of Education rules and board policy in the guidance and counseling area.
  • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues students and parents.
  • Model behavior that is professional ethical and responsible.
  • Participate in professional development to improve skills related to the job assignment.
  • Report to work in a timely manner according to assigned schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements andqualifications for the position.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise assigned counseling aide(s) and clerical employee(s).

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing stoopingbending pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks media equipment desks and other classroom equipment.


Regularly sit talk or hear; frequently required to use hands to finger handle or feel; frequent repetitive hand motions; prolonged useof computer; occasionally lift and/or move up to 1050 pounds; occasionally required to stand walk reach with hands and arms; visionabilities include close vision; and color vision regularly work with frequent interruptions maintain emotional control under stress; thenoise level is usually moderate. The employee may spend long hours in intense concentration which requires attention to detail. Thereare a number of deadlines associated with this position which may cause significant stress. The employee must also deal with a widevariety of people on various issues. Predictable and regular attendance is expected.
