Job Description

Position Summary:This position is engineering support for rapid prototyping and vehicle sustainment technology including ground combat vehicles vehicle maintenance and ground support equipment. Under the leadership of a senior engineer this role will support research concept development evaluation reverse engineering design and test/validation of hardware for ground combat vehicles and ground/aerospace support equipment.
The ideal candidate will:
Interface with product owners end users and teams to identify and document vehicle and support equipment end item and component requirements for concept development prototyping lifecycle management (LCM) activities and service life extension programs (SLEP).
Work with client hardware engineers to ensure documentation and product conformance with engineering design intent and performance requirements.
Design and optimize mechanical components for either traditional or additive manufacturing (i.e. housings brackets structural supports vehicle parts and aerospace hardware) and mechanical systems in accordance with current and applicable GD&T standards.
Create and execute component and system level validation and qualification test plans as well as analysis of test data and results.
Identify opportunities for UDRI to provide support to military and commercial sectors in developing fielding testing and sustaining ground combat vehicles and support equipment
Prepare proposals white papers rough orders of magnitude (ROMs) and briefings to communicate UDRIproposed solutions.
The work will primarily support government customers with the intent to grow into the commercial sector.Minimum Qualifications:

BS in Engineering (Mechanical or Aerospace engineering or engineering technology or related engineering/engineering technology field).
3 years engineering/technical product design and sustainment experience with working knowledge of GD&T standards.
3 years experience with design and development of unitary diesel engine powered vapor cycle air conditioning carts used to cool and/or heat military/commercial aircraft
3 years experience with design and development of unitary electrically powered vapor cycle air conditioners used to cool and/or heat military/commercial shelters (e.g. BEAR shelters and/or hangars)
Experienced with HVAC cart power generation internal power distribution to compressor(s) fans and blowers and overall thermodynamic performance of the refrigeration system and its components
Experienced with application of ASHRAE specs standards psychometric charts and recommended practices
Familiar with military HVAC system requirements and rationale; e.g. applicable mil specs size and weight constraints for air transport flightline mobility BEAR base deployments operator control systems maintainer capabilities high volume low pressure (HVLP) and low volume high pressure (LVHP) HVAC cart configurations high volume low pressure HVAC systems for BEAR facilities
Ability to create read and interpret models technical drawings schematics and computergenerated reports.
3 years experience preparing technical reports and briefings to communicate proposed project approach test results or solutions
Proficient in 3D CAD modeling software.
Working knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software and data analysis.
Working knowledge in Excel and other MS Office Suite programs.
Demonstrated successful collaboration within a multidisciplinary team.
Attention to detail.
Due to the nature of this position US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications:

3 years experience testing military aircraft to verify ground cooling requirements
3 years experience testing military HVAC systems to verify ground cooling capabilities for BEAR facilities
Familiar with flexible ducting specs special adapters and configurations used to connect HVAC cart(s) to aircraft and BEAR facilities
Familiar with the Air Force AGSEWG HVAC IPT at Robins AFB Aircraft SPOs general support equipment requirements and BEAR facilities equipment and power requirements/constraints
Familiar with air cycle air conditioning systems as an alternative to LVHP vapor cycle HVAC carts
Familiar with military worldwide operating environments (temp humidity altitude sand and dust solar radiation etc.
3 years of experience in analysis of components in relation to mechanical systems including FEA for structural fatigue thermal vibration and acoustics.
Engineering support experience with US Air Force Support Equipment and Vehicles Program Office
Training/mentoring/managing entrylevel engineers or technical student hires
Experience creating and executing component and system level validation and qualification test plans
Project management experience
Familiar with various manufacturing processes such as casting NC machining forging heat treat and additive manufacturing for metals and/or plastics.
Effective interpersonal communication skills demonstrated at all levels of an organization.
Selfmotivated and organized with ability to work with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated problem solving and time management skills.
Proficient in Solidworks 3D CAD modeling and Ansys or Abaqus for FEA
Active SECRET Security Clearance
