Primary Purpose:
Assist in all areas of the school library to provide an effective learning atmosphere. Provide instructional support services.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
Associate Degree two years of study 48 college hours) at an institute of higher learning or meet formal academic assessment
Valid Texas educational aide certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills
Ability to work well with children
Effective communication (verbal and written) organizational and interpersonal skills
Proficient computer skills to develop spreadsheets databases and perform word processing
Experience:
Experience working with children
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Library Program Support
- Promote literacy and the enjoyment of reading.
- Schedule library classes and equipment use.
- Supply teacher requests for library materials and notify faculty and students of new materials and services.
- Assist patrons in locating and using materials and equipment.
- Assist with orientation class activities and reading time.
- Assist users to develop search and retrieval skills to obtain information from selected databases.
- Operate and assist users with various software programs.
- Manage the circulation of all library materials to include library reports records inventory and weeding procedures.
- Operate library automation system and perform startup and shutdown procedures.
- Perform the backup and collection/circulation checks of the automated system.
- Process and assist with the overdue and fine lists damaged materials and notices for students; and distribute to appropriate teachers.
- Prepare displays exhibits and bulletin boards.
Student Management
- Assist in supervising students throughout the day inside and outside the classroom including: cafeteria bus playground and before/after school duty as assigned.
Professional Growth and Development
- Maintain familiarity with the districts curriculum to better serve the needs of students.
- Participate in professional learning activities to improve jobrelated skills and demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
- Participate in staff meetings and special events as assigned.
Communication
- Establish and maintain appropriate communication and a professional relationship with students parents and colleagues.
- Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the district and demonstrate behavior that is professional ethical and responsible as set out in the Texas Educator Code of Ethics.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of student and district information.
