Description

Your role and impact:

Reporting to the Executive Manager Quality and Safeguarding the Safeguarding Advisor is a key role within the organisation responsible for providing expert guidance and support in the development implementation and continuous improvement of safeguarding practices. The role is focused on ensuring that individuals are protected from harm abuse or neglect while receiving services.

The Safeguarding Advisor works closely with internal teams external stakeholders and regulatory bodies to ensure the organisation adheres to all relevant safeguarding legislation policies and standards.

Your duties will include but are not limited to;

  • Provide expert guidance to frontline personnel ensuring best practices in safeguarding are followed across the organisation.
  • Lead training and development initiatives to embed safeguarding into daytoday operations and foster a culture of safety.
  • Conduct safeguarding risk assessments tailored to individual participants along with other disabilityspecific health assessments such as development of seizure management plans and provide guidance on effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee the management of critical incidents ensuring accurate documentation and timely reporting of reportable incidents to NDIS in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Identify safeguarding risks and continuous improvement opportunities working with relevant teams to implement solutions.
  • Lead initiatives to reinforce safeguarding practices and promote a culture of vigilance and care across the organisation.
  • Support the development of safeguarding policies practice guides and tools to enhance staff understanding and the safeguarding framework.
  • Engage with external stakeholders including regulatory bodies and service partners to ensure alignment with industry standards and compliance with safeguarding regulations.
  • Serve as a point of escalation for safeguarding concerns offering coaching and guidance to staff in managing complex situations and responding to concerns appropriately.
  • Provide support in managing complaints or grievances related to safeguarding concerns ensuring proper channels are followed and appropriate resolutions are achieved.
  • Analyse safeguarding data incidents and trends to generate reports for senior management identifying patterns and areas that need attention.
  • Coordinate or deliver ongoing safeguarding training to staff at all levels ensuring they understand their roles in protecting participants and adhering to best safeguarding practices.
  • Ensure NDIS Quality and Safeguarding documentation for participants is completed and reviewed when required and to a high standard
  • Serve as the First Aid Officer providing response and point of escalation for medical emergencies.


Skills And Experiences

What you need to make a difference:

To make an impact at Good Sammy you will bring along with you your previous experiences you have gathered in a Health & Safety or Quality & Safeguarding environment.

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in a safeguarding role working with vulnerable populations particularly in disability services healthcare or social services.
  • Experience conducting safeguarding risk assessments and developing disabilityrelated health plans.
  • Proven experience in managing or responding to incidents involving safeguarding concerns.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and frameworks such as NDIS standards child protection laws and disabilityspecific legislation.
  • Effective listener and persuader.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to relate with people of all levels and abilities.
  • Able to prioritise a busy workload and multiple tasks/deadlines.
  • Effective and efficient computer skills including Microsoft Office products.
  • Drivers Licence

  • Tertiary qualification in relevant area or significant relevant experience (Desirable).
  • Problemsolving ability
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain positive customer (internal and external) relations.
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Able to plan and execute work to meet deadlines
