Job Description

Summary

The RespiratoryTherapist administers evaluates and monitors all aspects of adult andpediatric respiratory care; and responsible for consistently high qualitypatient care. Under the supervision ofthe Respiratory Manager and C.O.O.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs and administers respiratory therapytreatments according to physician orders.
  • Administers hyper inflation therapy (incentivespirometry) in a safe effective manner and in accordance with guidelines.
  • Set up and administer Aerosol humidity therapy.
  • Administers evaluates and monitors medical gastherapy.
  • Administers safe effective airway.
  • Set and monitor mechanical ventilators.
  • Administers percussion and postural drainage.
  • Able to lift and position patients intoappropriate positions.
  • Responds to all emergency situations.
  • Performs arterial punctures in a safe manor.
  • Accurately assesses patients pulmonary status.
  • Responsible for accurate charting.
  • Maintain and trouble respiratory therapyequipment.
  • Disassemble and clean (disinfects) respiratoryequipment.
  • Responsible for documentation of therapytreatments in daily/monthly progress notes using electronic charting.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team tomanage patient care.

Professional Requirements

  • Maintains regulatory requirements.

  • Wears identification while on duty usescomputerized punch time system correctly.

  • Attends annual review and department inservicesas scheduled.
  • Attends staff meetings and/or review allmonthly staff meeting as evidenced by Health Stream minutes.

Advanced Orthopedic and SpineCertification Requirements

(CR.1c) As partof the Advanced Orthopedic and Spine Certification at a minimum the Programdirectcare staff must have eight 8 hours of education specific to theProgram scope initially and at least annually thereafter

(CR.1e) As partof the Advanced Orthopedic and Spine Certification staff possess adaptabilityto processes as related to up to date best practices collaboration betweendepartments compliance with protocols/processes communication cooperationand exceptional customer service

Within 90 daysof hire or if currently employed within 90 days of signing the jobdescription must adhere to:

  • Orientation of Advanced Orthopedic and SpineCertification
  • In compliance with the Program educationrequirements
  • Completed department specific competencies

Regulatory Requirements

  • Must have current Respiratory Therapist licensefor the state of Louisiana
  • Must have CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist)licensure
  • May have RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist)licensure
  • One year of clinical experience within the lastyear
  • Must have current BLS (CPR) card and ACLScertifications
  • PALS certified preferred

Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively in Englishboth verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Two years of experience preferred.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representativeof those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essentialfunctions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee isregularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requiresrepetitive motions standing walking bending kneeling and stooping all employee must frequently lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
