Jewish Hospital part of UofL Health is an internationally renowned hightech tertiary referral center developing leadingedge advancements in hand and microsurgery heart and lung care orthopedics and sports medicine neuroscience organ transplantation and outpatient care. The hospital is the site of the worlds first successful hand transplant and AbioCor implantable replacement heart procedures in addition to the first trial of adult cardiac stem cells in chronic heart failure. Jewish Hospital continues to be recognized for its specialized heart care procedures including the implantation of ventricular assist devices (VAD) and transcatheter aortic valve replacement. The UofL Health Trager Transplant Center is in a select group of hospitals nationwide that perform heart lung liver kidney pancreas and hand center also includes a Pancreas Disease Center a GI Motility Clinic and Advanced Heart Failure and VAD programs.

The Patient Access Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the registration of inpatient outpatient and ER encounters. The supervisor

  • Ensures that accurate demographic information and signatures for all forms are obtained.
  • That all 3rd party Health insurance payer requirements for eligibility authorizations and referrals are obtained on inpatient and outpatient cases as required by area of service.
  • Meets with staff on a daily weekly monthly basis to educate staff on core standards AIDET processing procedures to ensure that excellent quality information is obtained while portraying excellent customer service.

The Patient Access Supervisor interacts with the all departments of the hospital. The supervisor projects a manner that is perceived as courteous and professional in all aspects of the job including dealing with patients and families. The supervisor assists in orientation and training of new staff and the cross training of current staff. The supervisor will monitor attendance and employees core standards and initiate disciplinary procedures according to the progressive and attendance policies of University of Louisville Hospital. The supervisor will complete all orientation and annual evaluations for all employees that work in the area that is supervised. The supervisor will be responsible for entry of staffs time into payroll system. The supervisor will provide ageappropriate services to: neonate (birth to 12 months) pediatrics 1 to 11 years) adolescents 12 to 17 years) adults 18 to 65 years) and geriatrics 66 years).

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for determining staffs work assignments.
  • Monitors staffs work including registrations and financial documentation to ensure eligibility authorizations and referrals are obtained accurately and timely.
  • Attends intradepartmental and specialty departments meetings.
  • Oversees the arrangement of coverage for absent employees and employees on vacation.
  • Trains new employees and ensures continuing education of current employees.
  • Initiates and recommends disciplinary actions for staff including attendance guidelines.
  • Performs orientation and annual evaluations of employees supervised.
  • Conducts staff meetings as necessary to create a team approach. Ensures staff are aware of all processing guidelines and work as a team to project a positive image for both the patient and/or family.
  • Educates and oversees the financial counseling discussions and guidance to patients and families especially in upfront collections.
  • Develops Policies and Procedures detailing departmental functions as necessary.
  • Conducts initial interviewing and screening of potential employees with the final decision to be shared with the Patient Access Manager.
  • Adjusts and prepares payroll system for supervised employees.
  • Communicates with other departments on a regular basis.
  • Monitors staff to ensure they are portraying excellent customer service.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Contributes to the accomplishment of department and hospital objectives.
  • Projects a positive personal and professional image of the Patient Access Representative department and hospital at all times under all circumstances.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • PC literacy must be able to type 30 wpm with a 95 accuracy
  • Excellent organizational oral & written communication skills required
  • Three years of relevant patient access or billing experience required preferably in a hospital to include billing of third party payers computer systems authorizations/referrals retrieval building teams counseling staff familiarity with entitlement programs and upfront collections.
