Job Description

Under the direction of the Director of the Center for Accessibility and Disability Resources within the Division of Enrollment and Student Success the Disability Services Advisor provides services and support for students who seek accommodations at UW Oshkosh. This position is responsible for assisting with the review and implementation of accommodations for undergraduate and graduate UW Oshkosh students ensuring institutionwide compliance with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as well as all institutional and systemwide disability policies and procedures.

  • Oversee the procurement provision and quality assurance of interpreting and captioning services alternative format requests and other assistive or adaptive technology needs for students with approved accommodations
  • Maintain and update the disability services database (Accommodate) for accurate recordkeeping of accommodation requests communications and documentation
  • Collaborate with campus resources academic staff and faculty to address disability concerns and determine reasonable accommodation implementation
  • Provide case management and support for individuals with complex disabilities
  • Represent CADR at admissions and recruitment events to assist new and prospective students with obtaining information on requesting accommodations
  • Promote campus and community awareness of disabilityrelated topics and issues.
  • Coordinate with campus partners to plan and facilitate opportunities for students to engage socially and build community.
  • Update and maintain educational materials including websites guides and program resources to assist students in accessing accommodations.
  • Assist with compiling program data for annual reporting and program evaluation initiatives
  • Assist with program inquiries student appointments and communication in an efficient and thorough manor
  • Develop and deliver training sessions for faculty staff and students on accessibility best practices including the effective use of specialized services.
  • Provide ongoing support and resources to promote understanding and implementation of accessibility policies.
  • Ensure services are compliant with institution system and national disability policies and procedures
  • Attend university events as available to maintain visibility and advocate for students with disabilities.
  • Draft analyze and maintain documentation to demonstrate compliance with disabilityrelated regulations policies and procedures.
QualificationsRequired:
  • Bachelors degree in human services education or another related field
  • Strong understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and their amendments
  • Excellent communication organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments
  • Commitment to promoting an inclusive diverse and accessible campus environment
Preferred:
  • Experience in disability services compliance or accessibility advocacy preferably in a higher education or large organizational setting
  • Demonstrated experience applying elements of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and their amendments within work history
  • Experience with assistive technology for accessibility
