Cabarrus County Government EMS Department and Rowan Cabarrus Community College (RCCC) have joined forces to offer a wonderful learning and training opportunity. Cabarrus County EMS is excited to announce the EMT to Paramedic Trainee Bridge Program. The EMT to Paramedic Bridge Program offers an opportunity to fast track and advance your EMS career! Cabarrus County EMS will support you by providing class room training through RCCC on the job training and fulltime pay and benefitsall while you learn. During this time you will attend classes to prepare you for paramedic certification hands on training and EMT employment duties during school breaks holidays and occasional weekends. After successfully completion of the Paramedic Trainee program and upon obtaining your paramedic certification you will have job placement opportunity as a FullTime Paramedic with Cabarrus County EMS Department. From there Cabarrus County EMS provides numerous leadership and educational development opportunities to expand and grow within the EMS field. We are eager to get you started!!



Earn and Learn $19.51 $23.33 per hour) OnTheJob Training and Certification opportunity provided through Cabarrus County Government fully funded EMT to Paramedic Trainee Bridge Program.




Trainee position requires enrollment in Rowan Cabarrus County College (RCCC) Paramedic Academy Program. This is a 9month commitment involving classroom and clinical components. After successful completion of the program and Paramedic credentialing by the state NC the EMT will transition to Paramedic position. EMS Continued Employment Agreement for a twoyear period is required that starts upon completion of Paramedic credential. While in training standard EMT duties may be completed during school breaks or when assigned by the department. This description combines EMT Basic duties with educational program requirements.

5. Please note that you must apply for employment with Cabarrus County Government as well as apply to Rowan Cabarrus Community College Paramedic Program. Failure to submit either one of the applications will automatically disqualify you from moving forward in the selection process.

6. You must schedule your advising appointments with RCCC for the upcoming accelerated paramedic academy in July 2025 at RowanCabarrus Community College.

Your first step is to schedule an inperson advising appointment with Alan Thompson (RCCC).


Next academy class 4 days weekly) will begin in July 2025 6.758 months)

If interested in a degree your paramedic credential will be worth 48 hours of curriculum credit at RCCC leaving you with only 27 credit hours to complete an associate degree if you would like to continue your education with a degree.

RCCC may have some limited financial aid available for paramedic training.

General Definition of Work:

Attends education program and meets all requirements as assigned by RCCC faculty. When working as an EMT performs responsible skilled technical work responding rescuing and transporting the sick and injured and administering emergency medical care at the EMT level. Work is performed under the regular supervision of a Shift Supervisor. Daily guidance and direction concerning patient care is provided by a Senior or Master Paramedic.

Examples of Duties

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:

Attending educational program and completing all assigned requirements. When working as EMT responding to calls for emergency medical services; providing emergency medical care; driving; maintaining records and files; preparing reports.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of protocols equipment and supplies employed in the emergency care of patients and victims of accidents and the street and road system and physical layout of the county. General knowledge of the principles of anatomy and physiology and the techniques of emergency care including diagnosis proper treatment and transportation. Skill in diagnosing a victims condition and applying emergency medical care. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; to keep records; prepare reports; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians patients and their families associates and the general public.

Minimum Education / Experience requirements

Education and Experience:

Requires graduation from high school or a GED and North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician Credential.

Requires enrollment and continuing participation in RCCC Paramedic Academy Program. Requires successful completion of RCCC Paramedic Program. Credentialing as a Paramedic by the state of NC within 6 months of completing the RCCC Paramedic Academy Program.

Applicant must apply to both Cabarrus County EMS employment and RCCC Paramedic Academy and be accepted by both entities in order to complete the Paramedic Trainee (EMT to Paramedic Bridge Program)

Some experience and training in emergency medical care preferred.

Special Requirements:

Possession of an appropriate drivers license valid in the State of North Carolina. Possession of all certifications for the position as required by the State of North Carolina and the department. Position is a safetysensitive position as defined by the Drug Free Workplace Policy.


Physical Requirements:

This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally up to 75 pounds of force frequently and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing balancing stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting grasping feeling and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth perception color perception night vision peripheral vision preparing and analyzing written or computer data visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts use of measuring devices operation of machines operation of motor vehicles or equipment determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions noise vibration hazards atmospheric conditions and oils. The worker may be exposed to blood borne and airborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
