University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown(located at 500 E. Market Street Iowa City IA)is a 194bed hospital that became part of Iowas only comprehensive academic health system on Jan. 31 2024.

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Emergency Medicine at the Downtown Campus is seeking to hire 90 Patient Care Technicians in the Emergency Department (ED). Under the direct supervision of Registered Nurses the ED Patient Care Technician will perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care.

Duties include (but not limited to):

  • Perform EKGs throughout the Emergency Department as well as throughout the entire hospital.
  • Set up rooms for patient admission.
  • Clean equipment patient bedside area and nursing unit.
  • Transport patients by bed cart or wheelchair.
  • Stock and supply patient rooms and Nursing unit.
  • Perform basic CPR as required.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Assist patients with bedpans urinals and perineal cleansing.
  • Perform patient personal hygiene such as bathing toileting feeding dressing grooming and oral care for patients.
  • Turn position and ambulate patients.
  • Take temperature pulse and blood pressure.
  • Enter daily patient record charting in computer.
  • Transport equipment specimens and supplies.

Percent of Time: 90
Schedule: Night Shifts with rotating holidays and weekends.
