How can you make a difference in peoples lives
We are seeking a bilingual Recovery Specialist who is fluent in one or more of BHSDs seven threshold languages: Spanish Vietnamese Tagalog Mandarin Cantonese Farsi and Russian. The ideal candidate will have a passion for serving diverse communities excellent communication skills and the ability to deliver culturally competent services.
In this role youll make a difference in the lives of people with substance use challenges and often with cooccurring conditions. Youll use and grow your skills in compassionate care crisis intervention and deescalation in a supportive and inclusive work environment. Youll have the opportunity to help people who are just discovering possibilities in their journey going from a place of hopelessness to a place where they are valued and have the potential for a better life.
The main responsibilities of a Recovery Specialist are to be warm and welcomingcomplete phone screenings intakes referrals and dischargescollaborate and communicate withproviders documentation of participants needs accesscounty databases to determine eligibility of county servicesprovide participants with snacks hygiene kits and clothes as needed and assist in the daily responsibilities in keeping a clean and healthy environment.

Accountabilities:

  • Monitor and observe Recovery Station participant behavior and activity to ensure participants are safe accounted for and stable.
  • Must work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team at the Recovery Station
  • Create and maintain a safe welcoming environment for all participants and visitors.
  • Maintain facility cleanliness and organizationdaily.
  • Provide help with transportation and emergencyresponse.
What will make you successful in this role
  • Must be able to work fulltimeincludingweekends and holidays.
  • Registered and actively working oncertificationas Substance Abuse Counselor in CA is recommended.
  • Experience working with individualsthat feel overwhelmed or in a crisis.
  • Experience working with intoxicated individuals.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and culture.
  • Experience working with individuals with cooccurring disorders and disabilities.
  • Knowledge of alcoholism/addiction treatmentand Motivational Interviewing concepts and techniques
  • Able to handle and deescalate emergency situations.
  • Must show a demonstrated knowledge of computers; including but not limited to data input internet navigation Microsoft word etc.
  • Ability to write/type clear narrative reports and notes.
  • Preferred: Bilingual in at least one of BHSDs seven threshold languages (Spanish Vietnamese Tagalog Mandarin Cantonese Farsi Russian).
What else is required
  • Valid California drivers license with a good driving record and car insurance.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certificate.
