Job Goal(s):
The primary job goal of the Program Assistant for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing is to work with theclassroom teacher in carrying out the instructional program for each student in the assignedclass.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
High School diploma required
Associates degree or completion of two years college equal to 60 semester hours is preferred
Skills:
- American Sign Language preferred
- Ability to work with students with hearing impairments who may possess deficits in developmental areas particularly language and comprehension
- Ability to implement consistent child management skills
- Possess good communication teamwork and interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with teacher ancillary staff and students
- Preference given to individuals with sign language experience
Essential Job Functions:
- Valid Drivers License required
- Consistently demonstrate effective instructional behaviors.
- Demonstrate effective classroom behavior management skills.
- Follow teacher direction and written lesson plans.
- Demonstrate initiative in picking up concepts and methods of instruction.
- Assist teacher in classroom preparation for instruction and organization.
- Assist in monitoring and maintaining records of students progress toward IEPC goals and objectives.
- Instruct students individually or in small groups.
- Supervise a variety of student activities including playground field trips and communitybased instruction opportunities.
- Stoop and kneel in order to play and work with children on the floor.
- Learn and use crisis intervention techniques with children.
- Assist students with personal needs (toileting dressing etc..
- Assist in development of procedures and implement and collect data regarding their effectiveness.
- Provide constructive feedback to teachers regarding students programming and teacher performance.
- Demonstrate problemsolving skills and be able to take on the duties of the primary instructor when the teacher is absent from class.
- Accept feedback from staff in a professional manner.
- Deliver students to appropriate locations on time for programming or bus transportation.
- Participate in staff meetings.
- Demonstrate ethical handling of confidential student and parent information.
- Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Complete assigned responsibilities within agreed upon or established timelines.
- Adhere to Van Buren ISD policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Director of Special Education.
Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van BurenISD Board of Education.
