SUMMARY

Performs a wide variety of duties involved with preparing and serving food/beverages in the campus cafe. May perform such duties as cooking preparing salad items hot and/or cold foods and/or assisting in the preparation of bakery items as appropriate to the position. Assist in cleaning work areas equipment and utensils. Assist in the setup and service of food and beverages and in the collection and disposal of garbage/trash. Serve food to customers and/or perform cashiering duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED. Preferred: ServeSafe or industry recognized food safety certification and two years experience in food service or related field. Preference will be given for two or more years cafeteria cook experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required.   • Setup food service kitchen and/or salad area facilities equipment and utensils under detailed instruction in accordance with specific area needs; check food temperature and/or prepare areas for daily operations; operate cooking or baking equipment as assigned.
  • Convey food and supplies to and from the freezers and pantry to the kitchen and to serving areas.
  • Follow prescribed procedures in setting up hot/cold food; choose proper utensils and set appropriate temperatures for menu items.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of hot and cold meat and vegetable dishes beverages salads sandwiches desserts simple bakery items salad dressings and/or other similar food items as appropriate to the position.
  • Serve food items to customers from counters and /or steam tables in accordance with specific instructions ensuring that appropriate portions are served. May include relishes and garnishes according to instructions.
  • Replenish foods condiments silverware glassware dishes and trays at serving stations.
  • Ensure the drink machines canisters and ice machines are cleaned and maintained. Attend to daytoday needs concerning equipment and food supplies detects and ensures disposition of spoiled or unattractive food defective supplies/equipment and /or other unusual conditions.
  • Clean and maintain all work areas to include food service facilities utensils pots/pans serving items and small equipment; collect and place garbage and trash in designated containers; ensure all items are appropriately stored or replaced to appropriate location.
  • Perform cashiering duties as required
  • Work professionally with public staff and students ensuring a positive customer service focus at all times.
  • Attend professional development to include industry related standards and campus meetings as appropriate.
  • Willing to obtain necessary jobrelated certifications.
  • Operate a variety of kitchen utensils to weigh measure mix wash peel cut grind stir strain season and knead foods for cooking serving and storing.
  • Clean and sanitize workstations and equipment following all institution and regulatory agency rules and procedures.
  • Follow all safety protocols and risk management policies and procedures to include workstations maintaining equipment and maintenance schedules.
  • Participate in regular safety meetings safety training and hazard assessments and report all accidents and injuries.
  • Knowledge skills and abilities to include: supply/equipment/service ordering and inventory control; follow routine verbal and written instructions; understand and follow safety procedures; use cleaning equipment and supplies; work respectfully with the public/staff/students; food service lines setup and temperature requirements; skills in cooking and preparing foods; food preparation and presentation methods techniques and quality standards.
  • Attend training programs as designated
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The primary work environment that requires the employee to walk stand reach with hands and arms talk hear and taste or smell. Requires reliable dependable and punctual attendance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and up to 40 pounds of force. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts electrical equipment and will be handling various utensils. Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures dirt dust fumes smoke unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
