Job Description

Story Construction is a 100 employeeowned general contractor construction manager and designbuilder based out of Ames IA. As an employee of Story Construction you will have the opportunity to join the ownership group through our employee stock ownership plan (ESOP). Position Summary:

We are looking for Crew Leaders who are team players and who take responsibility and pride in the quality of their work. Crew Leaders participate in various building and construction projects using an array of equipment tools and processes while helping promote a safe and productive jobsite. Crew Leaders lead and mentor crews while contributing toward a safe and healthy job site while demonstrating Storys core values.

Summary of Duties:

  • Prepare construction site each day by preparing materials tools and equipment.
  • Perform building and construction work which includes but is not limited to concrete walls foundations and slabs; structural steel and metal erection; interior and exterior process pipe installation; and general carpentry and finishes.
  • Proficiently operates a variety of hand and power tools forklifts skid loaders and other tools and equipment as directed.
  • Load and unload supplies and equipment ensuring that tools and equipment are cleaned and maintained.
  • Shovel materials to and from the job site such as dirt asphalt etc.
  • Site cleanup duties.
  • Conduct job site safety walkthroughs.
  • Follows all health and safety regulations when performing work and as otherwise instructed.
  • Train others on experienced tasks and learn tasks as needed or instructed.
  • Actively participate in work planning and the continuous improvement process.
  • Follow all company work and safety policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate work occasionally scheduling subcontractors onsite.
  • Additional duties as assigned.


Working Hours: Generally expect to work 40 hours per week Monday Friday from 7:00AM 4:00PM. Occasional overtime may be required.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction performing duties in concrete steel and carpentry.
  • Means of getting to and from job sites.
  • Ability to travel out of town and overnight as needed.
  • Minimum Tool Requirement: 16oz or larger hammer crescent adjustable wrench screwdriver 61 type) tape measure speed square retractable utility knife chalk box lineman or rebar pliers.


Travel: Some outofarea and overnight travel may be expected; job sites are located throughout central Iowa and across the state.

Working Conditions:

Employees may be exposed to fumes airborne particles moving mechanical parts vibration loud noises and more within OSHA standards. Job duties are often performed in close proximity to other people. Employees often work in outdoor conditions that include inclement weather such as heat humidity cold wind and dust. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly stand for long periods of time walk for moderatetolong distances on varying surface conditions climb crawl crouch reach grip push and pull without issue. Must possess adequate communicative auditory and visual capabilities to avoid safety hazards.
