Des Moines Public Schoolsis seeking a Head Cheerleading Coachat Hoyt Middle School.
Stipendfor this position: $2197.00
Stipend amounts are based on a percentage of the base salary negotiated by DMEA. Stipends are subject to be prorated if the full season is not worked.
TITLE:ACTV MS Cheerleading Coach (Stipend)
DEPARTMENT:Activities Department
REPORTS TO: Principal
RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM:MS Principal/MS Activity Coordinator/HS Cheerleading Coach
FLSA STATUS: Non Exempt
BASIC FUNCTION:
Provides leadership to develop and maintain a highquality cheer program that promotes school spirit. Supports each participating student in achieving a higher level of skill an enhanced appreciation for the values of discipline and teamwork and an increased level of self esteem.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Coach and instruct cheerleaders individually or in groups regarding the rules regulations equipment and techniques of the sport for events or competition.
2. Attend coaching/sponsor meetings as assigned by building or district administration.
annual activity plan to activities office by October 1st. Submission of plan will be required before the initial stipend payment is paid. (Activity plan templates will be available) a regular practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development.
5. Organize meetings for team prospects and encourage student participation. Hold tryouts or conduct auditions to select members of the cheerleading squad.
6. Assess skills and assign team positions.
7. Attend and cheer at all football games home basketball games (boys and girls) and wrestling competitions.
8. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior and provides proper supervision of students at all times.
9. Monitor the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
10. Maintain eligibility forms emergency data cards equipment inventory and other related records.
11. Conference with parents/guardians as necessary regarding the performance of their student.
12. Model sportsmanlike behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards cheerleaders officials and spectators.
13. Submit reports (with student evidence) and activity checklists to building and district administration as requested.
14. Attend districtwide meetings as requested.
15. Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
16. Maintain confidentiality.
17. Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public students and other employees.
18. Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):
HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:
Required:
1. Previous experience in cheerleading as participant and/or coach or related position.
2. High school diploma or equivalent.
3. Valid drivers license.
4. The ability to drive students to competition sites as required.
Desired:
1. CPR and First Aid Certification.
