CARE & CUSTODY OFFICER

As part of our ongoing commitment to the Department of Justice were on the lookout for individuals like you to join our extraordinary team of Custody Officers in Broome.

As a Custody Officer you will play a vital part in creating a safe and secure environment for detainees. Your role involves ensuring their welfare needs are met while consistently upholding a professional and respectful demeanour.

  • Unique Training Experience: Take advantage of the fully funded Certificate 3 in Correctional Services enhancing your skills and opening doors to new opportunities.
  • Paid Training: Enjoy 6 weeks of fully paid training equipping you with the necessary skills for this unique role.
  • Pay increase after training: Start at $27.35 during training increasing to $29.50 posttraining.
  • Regional Allowance: An extra $10189 per annum spread over your fortnightly wage payments.

What will your daytoday look like

  • Safely transport and supervise detainees during critical activities.
  • Participate in court activities for security requirements.
  • Manage conflict and communicate with empathy making a positive impact on the lives of detainees.
  • Value diversity and display a fair and openminded attitude towards detainees in custody.
  • Provide safety and security for Persons in Custody staff employees and members of the public.
  • Enjoy the variety of performing walking and mobile patrols of a designated area.
  • Be responsible for supervising people in custody escorting them to appointments or court appearances and maintaining accurate records.


What do we need from you

  • Availability to train full time for 6 weeks in Perth
  • Commitment to a minimum of 12 months to obtain qualifications: We value your dedication and commitment to your professional growth.
  • Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • Willingness to undergo a preemployment medical including a drug & alcohol test: Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our team members and detainees is our top priority.
