Job Description

Position Title: Technology Education Teacher (Middle School)


Pay Grade:
Instructional Salary Schedule Period of Employment: 10 months

Description Approved/ Revised:
3/2025 FLSA Status: Exempt

Supervised by and/or Reports to: Building Administrator and Director of Career and Technical Education

General Responsibilities:

Teaches students in grades 7 and 8 in the content and competencies of courses related to Technology Education. Prepares students for a variety of career pathways available at the high school level. Works with CTE and core teachers on crosscurricular projects and activities to enhance curriculum.

Essential Duties:

  • Prepares daily instruction and activities to meet all course competencies.
  • Organizes learning activities to achieve specific concepts.
  • Selects and utilizes materials and resources appropriate for the students instructional levels.
  • Uses relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Evaluates and documents students progress through testing observation and assessment of skills attained.
  • Assesses students learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group/individual needs.
  • Develops summative tests of students learning and uses results for further student instruction grading and placement.
  • Maintains order and encourages students to set and maintain high standards of behavior within the classroom and clinical settings and in accordance with division guidelines regarding pupil behavior.
  • Keeps accurate documentation of students attendance schedules and course requirements regarding hours of instruction and content.
  • Maintains accurate complete current and correct records as required by law district policy and School Board Policies and Regulations.
  • Supervise and work directly with students in a classroom laboratory using appropriate production techniques and taking all necessary safety precautions to protect students from accidental injury.
  • Communicates effectively with students and staff affiliated with the course including those at Manassas City Public Schools and in the community.
  • Attends and participates in district and schoollevel training programs faculty and department meetings as required.
  • Establishes cooperative relationships with the students and their families.
  • Develops effective working relationships with peers supervisors and administrators.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requisite Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to deliver instruction using active learning methods that accommodate different learning styles.
  • Ability to plan select prepare and implement appropriate active learning activities to meet all course competencies.
  • Demonstrates effective knowledge and use of instructional facilities variety of shop equipment and materials.
  • Ability to lift carry pull or push up to 30 lbs.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrates effective knowledge of and use of curriculum content (subject matter and skills) associated with the instructional assignment.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal relationships with a diverse population of faculty staff and students as individuals and in groups.
  • Demonstrates professional relationships with peers and specialists.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications electronic learning platforms and Google Docs.

Requisite Education and Experience:

  • Must possess a Bachelors degree in Education Technology Education or related field i.e. Engineering Manufacturing Construction Technology etc.
  • Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License with an endorsement in Technology Education.
  • Experience in the field of Engineering Manufacturing or Construction preferred.
  • Experience teaching in a CTE related field preferred.
  • Ability to build relationships effectively and professionally with families and students.
  • Experience developing and implementing curriculum.
  • Proven ability to maintain a safe and studious classroom environment.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in computer technology preferred or desirable and/or willing to pursue appropriate technology training as required by position.


Physical Requirements:


Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see read talk hear handle or feel objects and controls. Physically capable of effectively using and operating various items of office related equipment such as but not limited to: a personal computer calculator copier and fax machine. Some climbing stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting grasping or repetitive motions required.
