Title Teacher for the Visually Impaired Location NCOESC service areas Reports To Direct SupervisorScheduled Days As per employment contract / Full time and part time available FLSA Status ExemptJob Summary Under general direction provides in collaboration with the students IEP team consultation and/or direct services to students whose visual functioning interferes with educational performance. The TVI educates supports and collaborates with family members and other members of the instructional team who work with the learner with a visual impairment. The TVI must be able to convey professional opinions in a diplomatic collaborative manner in order to ensure that appropriate programming is recommended for the student.The TVIs Role May Include:
Supporting families in developing goals and objectives related to a visual impairmentSupporting transitions from early intervention services to preschool preschool to elementary school elementary school to middle school and middle school to high schoolAssisting in the provision of a coordinated set of activities for transitioning from school to adult lifeProviding direct instruction coteaching and participating in other collaborative effortsProviding direct instruction in visual efficiency tactile symbols braille assistive technology auditory skills social skills use of near and lowvision devices and other areas of the ECC based on student needConsulting and collaborating with parents teachers and other professionalsAssisting in modifying the environment to accommodate specific visual needsModeling appropriate instructional techniquesProviding creating and assisting in acquiring adapted materials as neededMaintaining current eye reports on each student when availableRecommending adapted strategies for access to the general education curriculum and participation in the school communityBuilding student independence and success in home community and school environmentsProviding support to learners to facilitate development of selfesteem selfdetermination and social acceptanceMinimum QualificationsValid Ohio teachers license/certificate with the teaching field of Visually Impaired (PKValid drivers licenseExcellent communication collaboration and organizational skills; including strong interpersonal relationship skills including cultural sensitivity & competencePreferred experience with diverse populations including those with disabilitiesProficiency with use of technology hardware and basic software (i.e. Microsoft office) email and office equipment (i.e. copier fax scanner telephone etc.. Proficiency with webbased applications (i.e. Google Docs DEWs website social media etc. and NCOESC databasesAbility to preserve confidentiality of student information and recordsMay require successful completion of communicable disease child abuse CPR first aid CPI and/or behavioral management training or other training as needed Clearances Criminal justice fingerprint/background (FBI/BCI) and public health clearances.Physical Requirements & Working Conditions The performance of this job requires constant talking and hearing engagement in repetitive motions and eye/hand/foot coordination. This job requires occasional standing walking sitting lifting carrying pulling climbing stooping kneeling crouching crawling reaching handling grasping and of primary duties takes place in a school environment with occasional exposure to adverse environmental conditions including extreme heat & cold temperature changes wetness humidity noise and hazards. Frequent light to moderate physical effort required.
