GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Functions as an integral member of the Athletic Health Care team in secondary schools. Plans develops supervises and implements a comprehensive program featuring athletic endeavors directed to prevent athletic injuries rehabilitate and recondition previously injured athletes and educate and counsel athletes on health and fitness. Recognizes evaluates and performs immediate care of athletic injuries. Prepares schedules of activities and informs supervisory staff and the student population. Selects and recommends the purchase of equipment and/or materials relative to the needs of the program in compliance with established professional procedures and within budget allotments.
ESSENTIAL TASKS

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Extensive knowledge of the practices of modern sports medicine as related to the supervision and care of student athletes in a secondary school setting; thorough knowledge of the policies rules and regulations of the City of Roanoke and its high schools; some knowledge of the basic principles of human psychology; ability to enforce school policies and rules firmly and fairly; ability to recognize evaluate and perform immediate emergency care of injuries sustained by student athletes; ability to carry out oral and written directions accurately; ability to supervise the activities of large groups of students; ability to prepare records and reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Degree from a fouryear college or university in Sports Medicine with certification attained as an ATC by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification with proven extensive knowledge of the science of exercise physiology. Experience with effectively operating various types of officerelated equipment including but not limited to a photocopier typewriter calculator and fax machine. Thorough working knowledge of personal computers their environments and software necessary to meet the needs of the position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Significant standing walking moving climbing carrying bending kneeling reaching and handling during engagement in the above outlined duties. Frequent walking standing light lifting 1540 lbs. and other limited physical activities. Occasional lifting of equipment such as audiovisuals weighing up to 50 pounds may be required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Duties typically performed in a school setting may include: classroom gymnasium cafeteria auditorium and outdoors recreational areas. Contact with public and other employees is usually congenial in nature but may be stressful when interacting with students who have undergone trauma.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid ATC certification and a valid Virginia drivers license.
