Job Description

Job Summary: This position coordinates activities of the Accounting Department including supervising Accounting Technicians Accounting Lead and Accounting Analyst. Responsibilities include overseeing accounting accounts payable and accounts receivable operations monitoring and developing procedures and a variety of accounting and financial reporting activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary in consultation with the employee(s) involved.

  1. Supervises assigns reviews schedules and plans work; selects trains motivates corrects and evaluates staff; resolves employee problems.
  1. Provides leadership and supervision for the accounting accounts payable accounts receivable and cash receipting functions of the district as well as records management for the department.
  1. Develops improvements to systems and procedures; Reviews and develops sound internal controls to protect district assets; Provides technical advice and direction; Advises district personnel on interpreting financial data.
  1. Oversees the accounting operations of the district. Ensures that accounting procedures meet audit standards and ensures compliance with state and federal law.
  1. Reviews interprets and communicates with district staff regarding Board Policy and Administrative Procedures pertaining to the accounting operations of the district.
  1. Oversees accurate and timely financial reporting for the state annual financial report (F196 the district annual report and monthly budget status reports.
  1. Monitors manages trains and establishes procedures for all local revenues including cash handling cash transport POS systems credit card programs and ACH programs. Performs periodic audits of district cash handling activities.
  1. Answers district staff questions concerning accounting procedures. Attends meetings and serves as technical advisor provides advice and counsel on accounting procedures.
  1. Reviews and analyzes work flow and operations to optimize and streamline processing.
  1. Maintains financial system as it relates to accounting functions including cash receipts and accounts payable. Communicates with technology department and fiscal software vendor. Trains staff on software applications problem solves edits setup and performs necessary utilities.
  1. Manages the districts accounts payable functions. Establishes procedures for accounts payable process and control including monitoring of check printing and managing the district revolving fund. Reviews documentation for Board approval of warrants issued. Oversees the coordination of warrant issues with King County Treasurers office.
  1. Oversees and manages the districts Department of Revenue tax and Federal 1099 reporting requirements.
  1. Coordinates the districts purchasing card program in conjunction with the Purchasing Department. Trains staff establish payment procedures and administers purchasing card software set up.
  1. Facilitates training and provides interpretation to school personnel in the accounting and administration of ASB activities.
  1. Maintains current knowledge of rules regulations legislation technology and procedures governing school district accounting; develops and recommends new procedures; learns new skills as required.
  1. Performs related duties consistent with the job description and employee assignment.

Reporting Relationship:Reports to the Director of Business Operations. Supervises the Accounting team including; the Accounting Analyst Accounting Lead and Accounting Technicians.

Working Conditions:Works in an office environment; required to meet inflexible deadlines; requires substantial visual concentration; requires occasional prolonged exposure to computer display terminal; dexterity and precision in operating a computer. On occasion may need to work flexible hours including early mornings late evenings and/or weekends.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in Accounting or Business Administration with an accounting emphasis and four years of accounting experience in a large complex organization. Preference will be given for accounting experience in a Washington State K12 district. Alternative combinations of education and experience will be evaluated for comparability.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Ability to read write speak calculate and communicate effectively; knowledge of general accounting practices and procedures; ability to operate personal computers and learn specific software programs; skill in operating businessoriented technology; knowledge of Excel spreadsheets and computer reporting systems; knowledge of school finance; ability to learn and interpret laws and regulations governing Washington State school finance; ability to learn district budgeting procedures; ability to construct implement and monitor time lines and meet deadlines on projects and reports; ability to analyze data; ability to organize and prioritize work; skill in detecting errors and verifying data; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public.

Salary: 202425 NonRepresented Administrator (NNRAP AD) Salary Schedule (Level F); placement on the salary schedule will be determined by Human Resources DOE. FLSA Exempt.


Work Year: 12 month position 260 days per year 8.0 hours per day.

Benefits: Washington state health insurance coverage (SEBB) and a Washington state retirement package for eligible positions. Generally you are eligible for SEBB benefits if you are anticipated to work at least 630 hours per school year (September 1 through August 31.
