Terms of Employment: 194 or 196 days depending on experience within WCSD
Position Criteria:
- Valid Iowa teaching license required
- K8 Professional Counselor endorsement required
- Successful demonstration of and experience as an elementary school counselor that demonstrates a commitment and adherence to the academic development career development and personal/social development of all students while demonstrating the ability to maintain levels of integrity leadership and professionalism as defined by the ASCA Standards & ASCA Ethical Standards of School Counselors required
- Successful demonstration of and experience as an atrisk counselor and ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills associated with atrisk programming mental health services and community resources preferred
Performance Criteria:
- Knowledge of the elementary school learner based on current research.
- Coordination of atrisk programming in collaboration with interventionists administrators and teachers.
- Ability to communicate and involve parents and communities in supporting student learning and healthy development including sensitive topics at times.
- Use of pedagogically appropriate/best practice instructional methods and a rigorous curriculum designed to prepare all students to achieve higher standards and become lifelong learners.
- Targeted intervention support based on diagnostic assessments and progress monitoring.
- Support implementation of MTSS process including functional behavioral assessment.
- Develop and monitor accommodations interventions and formalized plans including but not limited to: 504 Plans and Individualized Education Plans (IEP).
- Case management for atrisk students following compliance with programming criteria.
- Advocate for students success in all areas (academics social/emotional behavior).
- Before and after school student and family support and advocacy.
- Determine and implement discipline in compliance with district policy and building expectations.
- Ongoing collaboration with teachers administrators and families.
- Delivery of professional development in a variety of ways to enhance staff knowledge in the areas of such as working with atrisk students implementing MTSS processes etc.
- Communicate regularly with students family about the progress the student is making
- Preference is given to applicants with demonstrated knowledge of differentiating instruction projectbased learning the use of data to guide instruction the Common Core and Universal Constructs.
- Knowledge and experience with processes and procedures within the State of Iowa approved studentinformation data systems.
- Ability to be a member of a Professional Learning Community and an understanding of key processes in a Professional Learning Community.
- Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development as described in the Iowa Professional Development Standards and support of the Iowa Teaching Standards as the foundation from which to build that ongoing growth plan.
