Primary Purpose:
The mission of the AtRisk Counselor is to provide a comprehensive identification prevention and intervention process for students currently identified as atrisk of
dropping out of school.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Masters Degree in School Counseling
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Working knowledge of appropriate strategies for transforming behaviors beliefs and habits that put students at risk of not graduating from high school
Ability to communicate effectively with youth adults and members of the community
Ability to analyze develop implement and track intervention plans and strategies
Knowledge of and the ability to analyze data
Ability to identify access and utilize the multiplicity of social services available in the community to support students at risk of not graduating
Knowledge of alternative opportunities for reclaiming high school credits
Experience/Other Requirements:
At least 2 years of successful teaching
3 years of school counseling and/or administrative experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Collaborates with the campus leadership team to identify atrisk students using the state defined criteria who are atrisk of not graduating.
- Develops and implements individual strategies and provides counseling to atrisk students individually and in small groups to increase the likelihood that these students will stay in school graduate and achieve postsecondary goals.
- Implements a career guidance program with atrisk students to determine their strengths interests and learning styles in setting goals for a future career path.
- Gathers and analyzes data for individual students; identifies potential barriers to graduation; develops and implements intervention strategies: and develops a graduation plan with students to meet academic and career goals.
- Prepares written materials and procedures such as failure letters attendance reports correspondence etc. for other campus counselors to use with students and parents for the purpose of documenting activities providing consistency and conveying information when a student becomes atrisk.
- Plans conducts and/or assists with staff development programs for individual schools or district wide personnel when appropriate.
- Schedules and attends meetings (i.e. intervention meetings parent/teacher meetings etc. for the purpose of gathering and disseminating information as well as to provide training to parents of students identified as being at risk of not graduating.
- Works with faculty school counselors and administrators to develop classroom strategies to meet the needs of identified atrisk students.
- Contacts community resource organizations and agencies for the purpose of enlisting needed help for atrisk students.
- Contacts parents/guardians of atrisk students for the purpose of soliciting their help.
- Gathers culminating progress data such as reports on grades attendance and discipline for the purpose of building the program and keeping track of student progress.
- Maintains campus atrisk report and keeps a database for keeping track of interventions and the progress of the student.
- Collaborates with feeder middle schools in utilizing data to identify atrisk students and develops strategies for a successful transition into the rigors of high school.
- Develop and maintain dropout intervention and prevention programs and strategies to encourage student success.
- Fulfills the responsibilities of a professional school counselor by engaging in professional development activities and complying with professional standards of the district.
- Maintain student records and transcripts as outlined in district policy and school counseling guidelines.
- Provide academic support and planning for transcripts and HS credits accordingly.
- Maintain district leaver reports and updates.
- Completes required reports in a timely efficient manner.
- Works in collaboration with district and campus personnel to promote positive support for students.
- Provides individual support and guidance to address social emotional wellness.

Budget
- 26. Complies with district policies as well as state and federal guidelines.

- Works cooperatively with the staff to provide a continuous flow of information concerning
student needs.
- Develops professional development programs as needed.
Departmental/Division Responsibilities
- 30. Works cooperatively with district counselors administrators and behavior facilitators to provide information on identifying and working with atrisk students.

- Communicates effectively with students professional staff parents and community in a positive manner.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent
