Summary of Position

The Distribution Assistant I is responsible for sustaining consistent flow in and out of the distribution area. This position performs a wide variety of distribution processes to include distribution of cases to Pathologists completion of requested shipments followup of Distributions departmental responsibilities and other duties as assigned and required following approved Standard Operating Procedures.

Key Job Elements

• Scans slides into the LIS. Accurately match slides with paperwork generated by the LIS and sort in a timely manner.
• Maintains pathologist workload by accurately balancing jar counts within the LIS.
• Monitors and ensures that the most uptodate pathologist vacation calendar pathologist licensing report (obtained from credentialing) are readily available at each station.
• Delivers all slides to pathologist in a timely manner.
• Emails client services of pending discrepancy cases in distribution.
• Sorts and delivers all slides received from our IHC department in a timely manner.
• Receives verifies unpacks and stores supplies in designated work areas within distribution.
• Communicates when supplies are needed in distribution.
• Is aware and knowledgeable of sendoff rules when sending cases offsite to other facilities.
• Notifies other distribution employees of special requests from multiple departments such as: Pathologists Accessioning PAs and Client services. Also responsible to complete and respond to requests in a timely manner.
• Documents all quality issues within daily distribution worksheet and communicates any quality issue that may arise.
• Communicates necessary information to PAs and/or Accessioning leads when discrepancies arise.
• Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information concerning patients physicians employees clients vendors and the company.
• Reports all concerns of test quality and/or patient or employee safety to a Supervisor or Safety Officer.
• Has a good understanding and working knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems including Autoassign and Novopath.

Knowledge/Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor of Science in biology or related field preferred.
• Prior experience in the medical field and/or laboratory preferred.
• Demonstrated skills and high level of attention to detail in technical data interpretation and ability to troubleshoot.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite specifically Word Excel Outlook Teams and general working knowledge of Internet for business use.
• Ability to multitask and work in a fastpaced deadline driven environment.
• Visual acuity (including color discrimination) and analytical skill to distinguish fine detail.
• Manual dexterity to use common laboratory equipment and perform sterile techniques as required.
• Must possess ability to sit stand or walk for long periods of time.
• Must possess ability to perform repetitive motion.
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
• May have exposure to extreme temperatures high noise levels fumes and biohazardous material/chemicals including formalin in the lab environment.
• May be required to handle bloodborne pathogens and general laboratory reagents handle live human specimens tissues and bodily fluid.
