Job Description

Position Department: Senior Systems Engineer Operations

Type of Position: Fulltime Salaried Exempt

Work Schedule Hours per week: MondayFriday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM 40 hours per week

Pay Range:$71500 $94000 and determined based on relevant years of work experience.

Position Summary: Design develop maintain and support technical infrastructure that includes network hardware database and system software components for Johnson County Community College (JCCC). Conduct analysis of issues and lead the evaluation development and recommendation of specific technology products and platforms to provide costeffective solutions that meet organizational and technology requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelors degree and 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Considered highly skilled and proficient in discipline.
  • Conducts complex important work under minimal supervision and with wide latitude for independent judgment.

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provide knowledge and recommendations for decisions and priorities regarding the enterprises overall systems design. Contribute to establishing and implementing standards and guidelines for the design of technology solutions including engineering and implementing solutions that require integrating multiple platforms operating systems and applications across JCCC.
  • Review advise and design standard software and hardware builds system options risks costs versus benefits and impact on JCCCs processes and goals. Provide technical guidance to project teams as needed. Develop and document the framework for integration and implementation of changes to technical standards.
  • Track industry trends and maintain knowledge of new technologies to better serve the enterprise IT systems needs.
  • Define systems engineering and design across JCCC and work on multiple projects as a technical leader or subject matter expert. Contribute to highly complex initiatives that require indepth knowledge across multiple technical areas and business segments.
  • Translate business requirements into functional requirements and specifications engineer systems to meet JCCCs needs by assembling existing hardware and software components and creating new integrations and automation code.
  • Research and recommend innovative (and where possible automated) solutions for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage JCCCs resources and provide economies of scale.
  • Interpret and discuss technical information with others which involves terminology or concepts unfamiliar to many people. Provide advice and recommend actions involving complex issues. Liaise regularly with vendors advanced technical support to implement or troubleshoot integration points with hosted networks and systems.
  • Maintain enterprise service levels and optimum utilization of system processors storage subsystems printer subsystems network and peripheral devices.
  • Install and rebuild new and/or existing servers and configure hardware peripherals services settings directories storage etc. in accordance with project and operational standards and requirements.
  • Maintain current operating system and system software release levels through patching upgrades or new installation. Monitor systems performance and diagnose and rectify performance problems. Create and utilize toolsets necessary to modify and compile systems and application software as needed.
  • Plan develop and maintain systems backup/recovery business continuity and disaster recovery operations and procedures according to departmental and JCCCwide policies and procedures. Manage the filelevel system security access and authorization.
  • Provide advanced 24x7x365 Tier III technical support on hardware systems software and utilities related to data center operations per request from various constituencies. Work with vendors to support systems and coordinate troubleshooting efforts toward problem resolution. Communicate system issues or outages and follow change management processes when providing technical support.
