JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Penn State Abington Academic Advising Center
Participate in ongoing trainings and observe professional academic advisers to develop a stronger understanding of the practice via in person and zoom meetings.
Meet with incoming firstyear students as part of their New Student Orientation group and individual advising sessions.
Meet oneonone with students for follow up as needed.
Assist exploratory students with identifying interests skills and abilities while exploring potential majors.
Become familiar with campus and University resources including website and technology resources utilized by students faculty and staff.
Refer and/or connect students with needed resources to overcome academic and/or personal challenges in order to promote academic success.
Develop and enhance advising best practices including counseling skills for advising record keeping FERPA compliance navigation of difficult conversations and administrative processes.
Students must be currently enrolled in a Masters program and have a desire to pursue a career in academic advising.
CAMPUS SECURITY CRIME STATISTICS:
Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988 Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security such as those concerning alcohol and drug use crime prevention the reporting of crimes sexual and other matters.
