POSITION INFORMATION:
Teacher must hold a valid Elementary Education 18 grade certification or an Early Childhood certification and a valid Level One AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card. Teachers who teach any portion of the targeted ELD minutes must have a Structured English Immersion endorsement (Provisional or Full endorsement) an English as a Second Language endorsement or a Bilingual endorsement.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and implement instructional lessons to support English Language Learners while following state approved models and guidelines including the English Language Proficiency Standards and Arizona Content Standards.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
- Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
- Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media to address the individuals or student groups involved.
- Strives to implement by instruction and action the districts philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
- Ascertain possible learning disabilities of students on a regular basis seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
- Evaluates student progress on a regular basis.
- Maintain accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy and administrative regulation.
- Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules administrative regulations and Board policy.
- Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested.
- Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) in cooperation with department heads evaluates their job performance.
- Maintains professionalism by participating in all faculty meetings.
- Collaborates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals objectives and methods.
- Assists in the selection of books equipment and other instructional materials.
- Accepts a share of responsibility for cocurricular activities as assigned.
- Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with community colleagues and administration.
- Provides for his/her professional growth through an ongoing program of reading workshops seminars conferences and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
- Other responsibilities as determined by the Principal.
GOAL:
Use Arizonas Language Development Approach to design learning experiences for students that:
- Makes explicit the ways in which learning for English learners will be designed and implemented.
- Connects the language literacy and learning practices in all subjects and all instructional models that are critical to effective instruction and student learning.
- Communicates expectations to design and enact language literacy and learning practices in all subject matters for diverse English learners.
Through implementation of the four principles Arizonas EL students will develop a sense of agency confidence and determination.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Ten months full benefits salary and work year to be established by the Governing Board.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy.
