Iowa Department of Transportations Mission is Making Lives Better Through Transportation. This position will foster growth and support for its reporting team through the core values of the department. As a people leader this position will be responsible for aligning efforts of commitment transparency accountability and ethical behavior of its team. This position assists the supervisor by performing such duties as instructing employees answering questions distributing and balancing the workload and checking work; may make suggestions on selection promotions and reassignments. All activities should be in direct relation to the departments core values goals as laid out in its business plan.
Location: Sioux City District office or Cherokee RCE office
Shift Requirements:6:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Monday Thursday some travel required.
As a Survey Party Chief your duties will include but are not limited to:
- Works as a part of a surveying team
- Land Survey
- Boundary Survey
- Construction Survey
- Topographic Survey
- Documentation of survey activities
- Preserving and restoring control points
- Create corner certifications
- Operates and maintains survey equipment
- Conducts research required for surveys
- Respond to request for survey from district staff

Minimum Qualification Requirements
The equivalent of four years of fulltime engineering survey experience which included the operation of electronic and mechanical survey instruments;
ORan equivalent combination of education and experience substituting the equivalent of thirty semester hours of college university or technical school course work in civil engineering construction engineering or photogrammetry for one year of the required experience with a maximum substitution of four years;ORemployees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of twelve months of fulltime experience as an Assistant Survey Party Chief.

- Designated positions in this class require possession of a valid Commercial Learners Permit upon hire. Within a timeframe determined by the appointing authority a valid Class A Commercial Drivers License with the required endorsements and applicable restrictions must be obtained and subsequently maintained in order to continue employment.
- If a CDL is not required all positions are required to have and maintain a minimum of a valid Class C NonCommercial Operators License.
- In conjunction with Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations (parts 40 and 382 designated positions in this job class require a preemployment drug screen and will require ongoing participation in the employers random drug and alcohol testing program and will be subject to the regulations regarding the Federal drug and alcohol testing program.
- Prior to starting employment all persons are required to have a post offer preemployment physical verifying the physical ability to perform the duties described.
- Employees must be able to travel and may be required to stay away from home overnight during assignments.
- Employees in designated positions must be able to work up to 16 consecutive hours.
