Job Description
TITLE:Plumber/Steamfitter
POSTION TYPE: CRFT
HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:
Required:
- High School Diploma or HiSET (GED).
- Journeyperson license in plumbing and mechanical with state of Iowa.
- Minimum five years training/experience.
- Must have working knowledge in all aspects of the piping industry.
- Valid drivers license and vehicle access for daily travel.
- EPA section 608 Technician Certification for refrigeration.
- Knowledge of roof top unit repair maintenance and programming.
- Ability to read blue prints and calculate materials.
- Working knowledge of water treatment in open and closed loop systems.
- Strong computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office products and vender specific software.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the English language.
Desired:
- Physically able to wear a respirator.
- Willing to work in confined spaces.
Skills Knowledge and Abilities:
BASIC FUNCTION:Performs maintenance on various piping systems and HVAC equipment in accordance with district policy and state and local standards. The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the facility services department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs maintenance on chiller and/or reciprocating compressor systems including chiller tube cleaning
- teardown and rebuild.
- Uses organizational skills to successfully prioritize workload and solve problems.
- Performs maintenance on cooling towers including annual startup and shut down of cooling towers.
- Installs and maintains water source heat pumps.
- Performs maintenance and troubleshooting using building automation systems.
- Repairs replaces and installs hot and coldwater piping systems.
- Performs maintenance on steam and hot water boiler systems.
- Assembles and sets piping for instruments measuring devices thermostatic controls used in heating and air
- conditioning systems.
- Required to be on call 24/7.
- Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with public students and other employees.
- Carries out all of the policies and procedures set forth for building operational personnel and facility
- management.
- Demonstrates leadership; communications and organizational ability.
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):
- Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public students and other employees.
- Assist with other duties as may be assigned

DAYS: 260 Day Calendar HOURS: 8 Hour Day
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Frequent standing walking bending/stooping reaching/pushing/pulling climbing/stairs driving. Occassional lifting up to 100 lbs and carrying 20 ft.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Frequent inside outside and extremes of temperature/humidity.
