TITLE: Preschool Teacher

POSITION SUMMARY:

To create a flexible preschool program and class environment favorable to

learning and personal growth of preschool pupils; to motivate each pupil to develop speech and language abilities attributes and skills that will enable him/her to reach his/her fullest physical emotional psychological and behavioral potential; to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members to build strong ties between home and school.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Teaches groups of preschool aged children.
  2. Establishes a rich classroom environment for children.
  3. Prepares an individualized development program suited to the needs of each child which shall include language development communication and socialization skills physical development health sensorymotor development and other appropriate learning activities.
  4. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of each child.
  5. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  6. Implements educational goals and objectives for each child consistent with state education regulations.
  7. Uses instructional materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction of pupils with a wide range of mental physical and emotional maturities.
  8. Plans and coordinates the work of aides assistants parents and volunteers in the classroom to obtain the maximum benefit from their efforts.
  9. Maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve effective participation in all activities without interfering with the natural informal atmosphere of a preschool program.
  10. Evaluates academic and social growth of pupils and keeps appropriate records of such evaluations.
  11. Communicates with parents through a variety of means. Holds parent conferences to discuss the individual pupils progress and interpret the preschool program.
  12. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health attitude and learning problems.
  13. Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays bulletin boards and interest centers.
  14. Maintains professional competence through inservice education activities provided by the school system and/or selfselected professional growth activities.
  15. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs as required.
  16. Utilizes appropriate school and community resources.
  17. Works closely with educational and service agencies in the community in making referrals deemed necessary to ensure the welfare of pupils.
  18. Develops in each pupil an awareness of his/her worth as an individual and his/her role in his/her family and community.
  19. Encourages pupils to express themselves creatively in art music and dramatic play.
  20. Adheres to the policy and procedures adopted by the Bellingham School Committee.
  21. Assumes responsibility for related duties that may be assigned.

SKILLS/ABILITY:

  1. Experience as a teacher of children with moderate special needs and with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  2. Experience as a teacher in a resource room setting.
  3. Experience with Applied Behavioral Analysis is desirable.
  4. Such alternatives to the above experiential requirements the Administration may find appropriate and acceptable.
  5. Good health willing to submit to medical examination.
  6. Ability to relate with students parents and other staff members.
  7. Must be a person of professional and personal integrity.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES and/or DEGREE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Massachusetts Department of Education Early Childhood (PreK2 required.
  2. Massachusetts Department of Education Moderate Disabilities (PreK2 preferred.
  3. Bachelors degree in education required.
  4. Masters degree in early childhood education preferred.
  5. Candidates must be familiar with the Massachusetts Department of education Curriculum Frameworks.

SALARY: As per BTA Salary Schedule

CLASSIFICATION: BTA

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

You are required to be physically capable of escorting students from the building in case of a practice drill or emergency situation in a safe and timely fashion.

Must be able to move about the classroom and have the ability to bend sit or stand frequently.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Paraeducators and Students
