Job Description

Applications will be accepted through May 2025 and remain open until filled. The first round of interviews will take place in April 2025 between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the direct supervision of a group of 511yearold children in a halfday summer camp focused on sports and active recreation. Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor supervises assigned campers and assists with planning leading and monitoring engaging activities that promote physical activity teamwork and fun while ensuring a safe and positive camp experience for all participants

Presummer training will take place between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm. The position will start on June 12 2025. The Recreation Leader will be assigned a variable schedule that will typically require 46 hours per weekday between the hours of 7:30 AM and 1:00PM. Schedules and hours will vary based on camp enrollment in 2025 and end on August 15 2025.All Camp staff must be available to start work on the first day of camp.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

The Recreation Leaderis expected to work effectively under minimal supervision. Work within a framework of standard District policies and procedures.

EXAMPLE OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices:

  • Maintains a sincere interest in providing each child with a positive summer camp experience. Assists with the implementing leading and monitoring Summer Camp activities.
  • Prepares leads and participates in recreational activities both active and passive for schoolage children such as games sports arts and crafts and songs at an assigned day camp location.
  • Supervises and accounts for assigned participants at the day camp location.
  • Assists Program Lead as needed to ensure signin and out procedures are followed.
  • Demonstrates a positive courteous and enthusiastic attitude with the children parents and camp personnel in daytoday activities.
  • Acts as a liaison between the parents children camp staff Program Lead and Recreation Coordinator.
  • Attends all preseason and ongoing staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Assists in keeping the camp location neat and clean and all equipment and supplies in good order.
  • Follows District policies and procedures.
  • Follows safety procedures and renders first aid as required; responds to emergencies as they arise and follows emergency procedures; assists Program Lead to ensure that accidents and incidents are promptly documented and reported.
  • Actively encourage and live the Districts mission.
  • Provide nonbiased and fair direction to Junior Leaders and act as a role model.
  • Communicate delegate review and implement planned recreational activities.
  • Conduct regular safety checks of your area and correct hazardous situations immediately.
  • Desire to work collaboratively on a team
  • The Recreation Leader Project HYPE position may also perform other nonessential duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Knowledge of recreational/sports activities appropriate for schoolage children. Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers children parents and volunteers. Leadership and organizational skills. Ability to use independent judgment and take appropriate action to ensure childrens and staffs safety. Ability to deal with emergencies and stressful situations.

1. Minimum Education required: This is an entrylevel position. A valid work permit may be required for applicants under the age of 18.

2. Minimum Experience required: Previous experience working with children (volunteer work babysitting playing sports coaching etc. is preferred but not required)

3. Other requirements: State law requires all selected applicants 18 and over must be fingerprinted and pass a preemployment background check. A TB test clearance is required for all selected applicants. Reliable transportation to and from work. First Aid/CPR/AED Training or willingness to complete/recertify (preferred)

Licenses/Certification:

  • Preferred possession of a valid class C California Drivers license.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications are highly desired but not required.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Outdoor recreational facilities; frequent public contact; exposure to sun heat and inclement weather. The schedule may vary.

Physical Conditions:

  • Strength mobility and stamina to bend reach stretch stand kneel walk run stoop lift carry push or pull objects weighing up to 30 pounds while monitoring children and participating in camp activities. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • The job involves 30 standing and 70 walking or active movement.
  • Must occasionally have the ability to feel the attributes of objects by touch; maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling; and be able to walk climb stoop kneel crouch and stand.
  • Strength mobility and stamina to perform various physical activities.
  • Hearing and speech are adequate to communicate in person and over the phone.
  • Vision adequate to monitor children and read fine print.
  • Manual dexterity to grasp and hold objects use fine manipulation write and operate the telephone.
  • Frequently participates in strenuous physical activities such as running sports and other related camp activities in outdoor locations. Frequent monitoring of children requiring the ability to detect and respond to emergencies and provide CPR or First Aid as required.

Equipment Used:

  • Telephone equipment cart arts and crafts supplies and sports equipment.

Transportation Requirements:

  • Must have reliable transportation to commute to park locations within the District.

HOURS AND PAY RATE:

  • 040 hours per week
  • Generally anywhere: Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday and Friday from 7:30 am 1:00 pm (Modified hours for training and other meetings when necessary)

Terms of Employment:

  • This is a seasonal position. This position ends on August 15 2025.
  • State law requires that the applicant selected for the position must complete the fingerprint process to check for or verify conviction record; TB test clearance is also required.
