District 504 Coordinator
PURPOSE: As a college preparatory school committed to serving all students it is essential that we establish and maintain comprehensive support systems that ensure every student has equal access to educational opportunities regardless of disability. The District 504 Coordinator plays a crucial role in safeguarding the rights of students with disabilities by overseeing the implementation of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act across our educational programs ensuring appropriate accommodations and facilitating an inclusive learning environment that supports our mission of leadership and service.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
- Ensuring districtwide compliance with all Section 504 regulations policies and legal requirements;
- Developing implementing and regularly updating policies procedures and practices related to Section 504 to maintain compliance with federal and state regulations;
- Coordinating and overseeing all Section 504 processes including student referrals evaluations eligibility determinations and the development of 504 accommodation plans;
- Providing comprehensive training and professional development to administrators teachers and staff on Section 504 requirements responsibilities and best practices for supporting students with disabilities;
- Conducting regular assessments to ensure that services activities programs and facilities are accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities;
- Establishing and managing effective Section 504 grievance procedures investigating complaints alleging violations of Section 504 and facilitating appropriate resolutions;
- Collaborating with & advising counseling staff administrators teachers and other personnel on the effective development and implementation of individual 504 Plans to support student success;
- Communicating with and providing parents or guardians with procedural safeguards rights information and guidance throughout the 504 process;
- Implementing monitoring systems to ensure ongoing compliance with Section 504 regulations and identifying areas for continuous improvement;
- Maintaining accurate comprehensive records of all disability accommodation matters including documentation of evaluations 504 plans and related services;
- Conducting annual reviews of prohibited acts and complaint patterns to identify and address systemic issues related to Section 504/ADA compliance;
- Serving as a liaison between the school families and community agencies to coordinate resources and support for students with disabilities;
- Coordinating & facilitating 504 meetings at all three campuses to provide expertise and ensure appropriate accommodations are considered and implemented;
- Works closely with EC staff to conduct additional educational testing explore potential accommodation needs and transition students to IEP plans if necessary
- Leading the districts 504 team and coordinating with buildinglevel 504 representatives to ensure consistent implementation across all school sites;
- Staying current with legal developments case law and best practices related to Section 504 and disability accommodations in educational settings;
- Preparing and submitting required reports to administration and governmental agencies regarding 504 compliance and activities;
- Other duties assigned by the Superintendent or other administrative staff.
REPORTS TO: Director of Academics
SUGGESTED EDUCATION CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors Degree in an Educational field or related
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in education field preferred to have experience in special education counseling or related services
- Basic knowledge of Section 504 IDEA and ADA regulations and willingness to be trained
- Experience in developing and implementing accommodation plans
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
