Job Description

Synerfac is seeking an Environmental Field Chemist for our client in Rockville MD. Our client is an industry leader in offering a complete spectrum of environmental services for all who are required to properly characterize and manage hazardous materials and waste.

The Field Chemist is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations managing waste disposal operations and responding to hazardous materials incidents. This is a Bluecollar chemist position not a research and development/lab position.

Managing crews and teams onsite
Training and mentoring new staff
Segregation and lab packing of chemicals waste in accordance with company guidelines EPA DOT regulations and disposal site protocols management of labpack teams
Pour off/ consolidation of Flammable Combustible Corrosive and Toxic materials
Hazardous waste pickup at customer locations
Take part in hazardous waste compliance audits prepare reports validate data
Operating various types of monitoring devices such as PIDs Ox and LEL monitors Mercury vapor analyzer and others
Site visits to conduct chemical inventories and providing information relating to the job
Various paperwork corresponding to the assignment to include: field reports lab pack sheets profiles manifests land ban forms chain of custody and vehicle check sheets
Performing drum deliveries and pickups
Loading trucks for the next days operations and restocking used PPE kits and equipment
Perform varying levels of service at customer sites including project management
Decontamination of laboratories and facilities sampling
Packaging and relocation of chemicals to and from customer sites
Inventory and control and cleaning of company storage areas and vehicles
Responding to emergency incidents involving hazardous materials and performing risk analysis to determine the boundaries/ zones proper personal protective equipment mitigation clean up and packaging per protocols and preparing ER reports
EH&S environmental project work at local client sites


Bachelors Degree in Chemistry/Environmental Science/Natural Science or equivalent experience
40hour HAZWOPER Required
Experience as a Field Chemist performing labpacks and other DOT related functions writing hazardous waste manifests and waste management and collection in satellite accumulation (SAA) and central storage (CS) areas in MD DC and VA
Laboratory or healthcare work experience / knowledge of laboratory health & safety standards and hazard communication requirements
Must be able to handle & move drums of at least 250 450 pounds
Required to fulfill annual physical & vaccinations requirements: Flu Shots TB skin test COVID 19 and others as required.
Valid Drivers License and clean driving record required.
